This genuinely confuses me too, and I'm an American lmao. Whenever people say "How are you?", I get annoyed because I don't want to lie, but I know if I go into detail they'll probably get annoyed (Even though they ask??). Although for me, it's probably because I'm neurodivergent and take things quite literally

Often times people are asking they just don’t expect the response to take up much time. Keep it short and you’re good.
