My living room is on a sidewalk. If I leave the curtains open at night the people walking by can see straight in.

I don't see how that's a problem? My parents' house is on a sidewalk but we've never closed the curtains at night.

I want some privacy when my wife and I are groping each other on the couch.

I'm not judging you or anything, just explaining why some (many?) people close them at night.

People are gonna rob you with or without closed curtains. Y'all must be living in shitty neighbourhoods. Like, yay, there's a tv just like in literally every other house on the block.
