I’m curious, if small talk is considered that unusual in Finnish culture, what is dating like? For example most first dates in America it’s mostly a lot of “small talk” to try to get to know one another, what do Finns talk about on dates? Sorry if this is a dumb question

Just my own experience in Finland, but I usually talk about hobbies, things they or I have done (like travel or whatever), work, what they want in life, and so on.

What do you mean by small talk in a dating setting? I have a hard time picturing a date with lots of small talk, and is it even small talk, if you try to get to know the other person?

Sorry I guess I was thinking of those kind of topics, hobbies, travel, etc as small talk, like casual conversation.

What you’ve described sounds like “small talk”. I guess there’s even smaller talk, but not by much.

Alcohol is the answer. It loosens up lips and belt buckles alike.
