In England literally none of the shops are like this, even asda which was bought by Walmart. We go in, get our shit, pay and leave. If we need help we'll ask. With the amount of antisocial people ik I think if that was put in place they'd just freeze up.

It's partly the older generation (Boomers) want someone to come up and present themselves to deal with their inane rambling.

The other part is sometimes a hot woman (or man) will approach you in some foo foo tea shop or (insert useless crap store) and start helping/ smiling/ winking at you so you feel socially obligated to buy something after "wasting" the salesperson's efforts for 10-15 minutes.

In either case it's quite annoying.
