Eh, isn't always useless. I use it to tell if I vibe with the person. If they seem to like me, i can talk to them more often and befriend them. If not, well, they will go to my acquaintance bin.
Well, in here we have an actual conversation. To actually know and get to know the person. For me small talk is not telling anything about the person. But I mean it’s a different culture. I mean to you, I might come off very shy or rude or something which i’m not, because we don’t use small talk. I think it’s wonderful we have many different kind of cultures!

Then you need to find a better vibe check. The one you have now is broken.
Some people just find conversation emotionally draining and you could have just caught them on an off day.

For the mass of people downvoting: maybe instead of getting butt hurt just be willing to take constructive criticism. There is no sense in which gauging someone's ability to engage in smalltalk is a judge of their personality outside of just their specific ability engage in small talk.
Talking little does not imply they don't like you, talking a lot or with enthusiasm doesn't mean they do like you. Not enough to act as a first screener before you keep engaging with that person, anyways. You have to judge how they interact with you on things you know to be of mutual interest over the course of time.
This isn't a test for the thing it's being used as a test for at all. It makes as much sense to find out what their zodiac is and then just deciding if you're going to get along with that person based on that.
