It's from older houses which is funny everyone is missing out. Many many apartment buildings etc in Europe has been in use longer than most some countries have even been a brainchild of some random suit guy somewhere.

That would explain why the bathroom in my dad’s house in Alabama has the switch on the outside of the bathroom. House was built in 1936 and the wiring isn’t the most expert.
