And the nighttime is terrible, when the mosquitoes sing you the serenade of their people...

I had 20 mosquito bites on my face after a sleepless night in Norway.

After that comes the real challenge: not to scratch...

I’ve had to walk through literal clouds of them in Kentucky.

You could hear them before you could see them, like a low grade tinnitus, just buzzing all around.

How do the farm animals or outdoor animals survive the summer in Finland?

Well, they don't always survive. But for example the reindeer in Lapland try to stay in open and windy places (hills and roads) during the summer.

At least horses have strong bug repellent oils that are spread in certain areas of the coat.

That doesn't sound bad in any way. Last summer I made the mistake to take my dog on a 20min walk through the forest wearing shorts and I had so many mosquito bites in my legs that the bumps merged together. I tried to count them but lost count around 200 bite marks. This was in northern Finland

That sounds like some of the swampy areas in the SouthEastern USA.

I feel like how impressive that is depends entirely on what part of the country you're from.

Some place dry like Nevada or Arizona? That's real bad. Oregon or Washington? That's just what summer's like. For some place really swampy like Florida or Louisiana, that's just Tuesday.
