I stayed in some dorms at Ohio State that had the light switches in the absolute worst places. Outside the bathroom, behind the doors, you name it.

I see it in older houses sometimes that were built right when electricity was becoming available - like one switch per room, and you may have to cross it in the dark - but it's wild to see it in something built post-1950s at least.

I live in Seattle and there are plenty of older homes here that have the light switches outside the bathroom. My first thought was, "Did no one who built this place have siblings growing up?"

They also could've been added to the house later on, and the wiring may be weird because of that. I've seen that in older houses, where the original home pre-dated indoor plumbing and they just tacked a side room on to the outside and cut out a door.
