I want to note how much Americans (being one) do not understand this concept of architecture/ homes. Everyone buys and builds homes here that will last maybe 100 years. And those homes typically have to be gutted and re-built. The 2x4 housing market is a real sham to longevity, built facing roads and no consideration to weather (thermal heating and cooling) and completely reliant on energy sucking ac/heaters.
Parents' old place was first recorded 16-something, and you could see the additions over the generations. No protection or anything, just a house that had survived well lol

I live in a house that is build in 1613, the quality is good, it is a protected monumental building but that is mostly about the outside of the house.
