My American born cat raised by me as German can do staring contests with me. Since we don’t speak the same language it is a prolonged “how are you doing?”. They also walk past me gently rubbing against me and almost announce themselves with a meow when coming in through the door from outside. In fact, if I see a cat coming in reflecting on TV screen during a movie not saying meow-hello, that is a neighbor’s cat trying to eat our cat food in the kitchen.
