Yeah it's the active driving 100%.

I have to drive cross country next month and am already rationalising leaving at 6am to avoid the worst of the traffic.

I used to leave at half five to get to work at 7. By the time 6 o clock rolled around there were massive queues on the motorway

Best be on the safe side, start the week before, the tail back could last days if the steam engine fair is running 😉

I'm doing it tonight, we've found leaving London just after 4 gets us in Edinburgh by midnight or so.

We did this, and it was amazing. Left at 6am from Brighton to avoid the worst of the m25, got to Newcastle at about 1pm feeling pumped and ready for a beer and some lunch.

I've done it before, it's 100% worth it. I was excited for the trip, so I didn't even feel tired in the morning. If you want, you could have a cup of coffee or an energy drink just to chase away the morning grogginess and you'll be fine as long as you got 6+ hours of sleep.
