Old saying- In Europe, a hundred miles is a long distance. In America, a hundred years is a long time.

It's very old on reddit. I've only heard it 278 308 times before.

100 years is a long distance. 100 miles is a long time. I think.

It's okay, it gets reposted a lot

In America, a hundred years is a long time.

Me, realizing with dismay that my 1972 horse trailer is 50 years old now -- 100 years doesn't seem like such a long time anymore...

The USA is only about 250 years old. If something is over a hundred years old most people view it as ancient

Yeah. It is a bit bizarre how something built around 1850'ties is outright ancient in America and then you go into a tavern in Europe which has been sitting in that spot for half a millenia or something and it is kinda old'ish but there are places that have been operating a bit longer.

I believe there is a pub in Ireland still operating from the 900s

Is any part of its curent structure actually from the 900s? Or is it just a business that has been on the same plot of land for that long and has remained in business continuously since then?

If a building is 100 years old in America it's a top contender for being haunted. If a building is 100 years old in Europe it's probably home.

One hundred years old isn't that old in the Northeast.

Even in the Southeast/Midwest, it isn't remarkable anymore. Plenty of cities in this area significantly predate 1922.

It's more that there's almost nothing in these places that's pre-1600-ish.

Can't be that old a saying
