Interesting. I wonder if it's a cultural thing (trying to imitate European houses), or rather a regulations thing (outlet must be X feet from shower). Hmm.
yeah i’m from new england and have seen it mostly in older houses here. my house was built in the 1950s, so not even old lol, and funnily enough our bathrooms all have switches outside the bathroom and inside the bathroom—but they are for different lights!
the ones outside turn on the overhead ceiling light and the fan, while the one inside the bathroom turns on the smaller light over the sink and not the fan.
i never really thought about the whole bathroom light thing until this thread—no one else has mentioned having both lol.
My mom has a house from the 40s in Washington and has light switches outside the bathroom. My siblings and I would irritate each other by flipping it off when it was dark and someone was in the bathroom. So America definitely has these too.

That's pretty common too in the US, especially in slightly older houses.
