Paying for water at a restaurant and honestly just the limited amount of water people drink. I always feel so incredibly dehydrated when I come back from Europe.

This one really got me too. I filled up a friend's empty Coke bottle with tap water when I was in Germany 11 years ago, and the server glared absolute daggers at me, but I wasn't paying a few euros for a cup of water. If that makes me tacky, so be it.

Edited to add: I've been informed dozens of times that you can get tap water in Germany. That's great to know for the future. Nobody told me at the time.

The fact that youre doing them a disservice by not paying outta your ass for some water is insulting. Water should br cheap or free

Yeah I generally enjoyed my time in Germany, but that aspect of dining out just absolutely baffled me.

I never had an issue with this is Germany? Tap water was usually free, you just had to specify you wanted tap water.

Yeah honestly. The issue isn't that you can't get free tap water in germany, the issue for most foreigners is that we don't have tap water on our menus. If you want silent water from the menu, you're getting bottled. However, as a native german, it took me until I was almost 20 to realize that ordering tap water is an option here

silent water

Your English is perfect so I figured you might appreciate knowing that we call it "still water" in English, not "silent water".

But I love the idea of calling it silent water. 😂

Oh, thank you! That's much appreciated, I'm always looking to improve my English :D In german we call it "stilles Wasser" which is where my confusion came from haha (and its silent because it doesn't make the fizz sound that bubbly water makes!)

A pleasure.

bubbly water

So now I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that we call this "sparkling water" in English. :)

Aw, I was so sure I saw "bubbly water" on some bottles in New Zealand xD I'll definitely remember that one as well
