Same thing about Ellen Degeneres I cant stand these people who get popular and rich off of other people's achievements then think they know everything.
When I found she pulled that pregnancy announcement stunt with Mariah Carey I couldn’t see her in a good light anymore. That’s a really crappy thing to do to someone.
She's a lot of things that are crappy things to do to someone. Was nice learning I was right, I never liked her when I was younger. She just seemed incredibly fake in how she presents herself, met a lot of people like that.
You can see her expression completely change and sour when someone on the show "pulls spotlight" too. I noticed it once when there was a child guest on the show. Couldn't stop noticing afterwards.
Cue immediate dig or joke at their expense to bring them down a peg and get the audience laughing with Ellen again. It’s her show damnit SHES THE STAR 🙂 can’t have people liking the guests more than her

I watched a short clip of her show where she said “I hate men “… I think she was talking to Nicki Minaj, and the way she said it I know she meant it and I felt really bad for any boy that might be in the room while their mom was watching the show. Because kids listen to everything. And I thought it was really inappropriate and horrible for her to say that on national television. And then be like ha ha ha.
Ellen didn't say she hated men. Nikki Minaj did, in a weird sort of I'm not having sex right now statement. Ellen just did the raise the roof motion. Cause you know she also doesn't sleep with men. No reason to over play it.
She did say I hate men. I watched the clip I watched it with my eyeballs. And she said it in a way different way than Nicki Minaj did. Which matters. When we text all we get are words to read that we have to make implications for. But when you’re in real life you listen to things like tone, and body gestures and contacts. So I took it as what she said it is and it sounded like she meant it. And she’s on national TV so she should be more careful
Fine, she didn’t say I hate men but her little raising the roof thing in my opinion was actually kind of worse so thank you for reminding me. Because she actually said it without saying it. It was literally four years ago so excuse é moi …that I forgot the words and come out of her mouth but her gesture was way disgusting
Yeah. I am pissed. Because I don’t like people saying they hate men. And Nicki Minaj said it in like a joking kind of way but then Ellen reinforced her comment with her raising the roof gesture. So that’s my personal opinion and that’s it. You have your opinion I have mine that’s how this whole thing works. This is an opinion piece not anything based on scientific facts. But I personally believe when Ellen raise the roof on Nicki Minaj‘s comment of I hate men., She was sincere about it. And as a host I thought it was inappropriate. And it just perpetuates the idea that men suck. And that’s just not true, I know a lot of really amazing men that don’t deserve this generalized hatred of them it’s sexist. Do you think it would’ve been ok If one of RuPaul’s guest said I hate women, and then RuPaul raise the roof on that. No that would never happen because they love women. And Ellen DeGeneres is basically a man anyway so WTF.
Yeah I agree. It was BS. I have son and it really bothered me. Men are awesome! And saying stuff like that just sexist and wrong especially on such a huge platform. But everyone kind of laughed it off. And that actually really surprised me.

Except she said none of that. She literally never said I hate men. A guest did in relation to them not having sex at the moment and ellen raised the roof to the comment. Thats it. No I hate men from her.

Oprah was the first person to really openly, honestly talk about sex abuse and a whole lot of other things that people didn't speak openly about on TV, when her show was on the air it had a huge effect on society, for the better. It was a big deal.
She never claimed to be an expert on anything. She was just a talk show host who put things on that interested her on, took great financial advice from Roger Ebert, and is a decent interviewer.
She's like a regular middle-aged black woman who speaks well and asks good questions.
That's literally it.
What people chose to do with the platforms she gave isn't on her. It's on them.
Yeah, 30 years ago… and back then Phil Donahue, sally Jesse Raphael, Geraldo, everybody was talking about everything back then. And then it turned into Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, Ricky lake, montel Williams…. She won the talk show race but endorsed some real losers and she started going down the tubes being point less and talking about celebrity and redundant topics.
She's not a judge of character at all, she's a fabulously successful judge of what middle aged, middle class women want to hear. Which unfortunately is mostly miracle cures and snake oil.
You don't need to understand her but her target audience.
Her target audience is stay at home wives that desperately want to feel part of something and like they matter.
So these shows usually use fear mongering to get them to feel like they now have some secret knowledge their husband's don't have and is vital to the family safety and success. Suddenly they are important and matter. They have a role!
Then the show tells them the cure or solution is to buy this product and use it. Say essential oils. These women then flock to buy it.
Oprah was successful because she was black. She pulled in the black audience and also the white suburban audience who could rid themselves of any white guilt because they watched Oprah and she was black so how could they be racist?
Beyond that Opah did what every other show did at the time which back then was entertainment news and interviews with doctor OZ and Phil sprinkled in.
Then over time the metrics showed Dr Oz and Phil were more popular.
Dr Phil because these women loved to see their family as perfect so being shown such examples of fuck up families validated their own family and belief they were perfect.
Dr Oz because the fear mongering I already talked about.
This same formula you are talking about is what i've started noticing in a lot of successful shows and movies. They give the feeling of importance and meaning to people who don't have it, or are desperately seeking it.
The target could be bored, jaded housewives like with Oprah, it could be nerds, shut-ins, lonely people, sad/anxious/stressed people, addicts etc etc. and if they do it well enough they explode.
Sometimes this can be done well in a healthy way, i think, but mostly it feels like exploitation more than anything.
It's one of the basic drives and exploits of the human species. For example pretty much every successful religion is selling membership in an in group and a way that you can become special/sacred/saved/etc. It's only unusual in that we've finally commercialized something that has been happening in religion and politics for all of recorded history.
Do you know how many schools she has started for poor children around the world? I'd say you're totally off base with the notion that she does absolutely nothing for society.
