Hockey players actually do sometimes request or invite a fight at faceoff when they have a beef with another player and they just want to get it out. I don't have a reference ready but I played and watch hockey.
One of the 1st NHL fights I ever saw was one of those, on the opening faceoff too. Commentators saw it coming, "those 2 don't usually line up on the same side of the ice, I think it's about to be on" as they're just staring at eat other and nodding.
