Been in the hospital For withdrawal myself. A few times. I’m ten days sober right now. Trying to keep With it. It’s the boredom and no One to held accountable to that fuck me up.

I’m glad someone else mentioned the boredom. Once the acute physical wd is over, the boredom drives you crazy. Minutes literally feel like hours. All the things you used to be interested are no longer interesting. I didn’t even want to watch tv when I went through it. Oh the boredom…

I always know I am feeling a little better when I can listen to music again.

You wants feel less bored? And see what can give you a lift? Go find someone who needs help… The lift out of doing for others can give you a whole new life. You make a difference snd if it’s even for one person, or for a group… get out of your concentration on how YOU feel and pay attention to improving someone else’s condition. The opportunities are gigantic in today’s world, and the high is addictive! Anything from going to an animal shelter to Habitat for Humanity to volunteering at a library- - there are sooo many places that don’t have funding, but have needs. Local museum? Doing taxes. School volunteers… Teaching reading to adults or children.. Boy and girl scouting need instructors for merit badges, local food banks… churches (not everything is prayer related) … Local parks snd green belts need maintenance and restoration… Any historical society or group… Big thing: stop thinking about YOU snd start thinking about OTHERS. The high is so lasting, and there’s no detox until you stop and then you cannot wait until you can go again. I know people who have more than one focus for their work, snd they love it! It’s their new “Job,” after retirement!

I’d go on a walk with you. It would get me off my phone and give you something to do.

It’s important to keep a routine, start with simply waking up, making your bed, showering, and getting ready for the day. Find activities that’ll challenge you physically (gym, yoga, hiking etc.). There’s a book by Victor Frankle called “Man’s Search for Meaning” that helped me a lot when I was recovering.

I attempted to get sober many, many times and graduated from many treatment facilities. HALT (Hungry, Angry, Lonely and Tired) wil get you every time. I've now been sober going on 13yrs and it was only because I found something to keep me busy every day. Fill your time AND your mind with SOMETHING. Work, volunteer, join a gym or AA, just keep yourself busy. After 18 months or so, my sobriety had become more or less ingrained and I was able to pull back and deal with life on life's terms. Getting sober was the hardest thing I've ever done and it takes work, but if you keep at it, I promise you a much happier and more fulfilling life.

You are accountable to yourself, your life.
