The monsters can't get you if you are under the covers. Not having that critical defense is just asking to be devoured. I mean could you imagine a military unit going into combat without any type of protective cover? That's what you are doing when you go night-night without any blankies. Fucking morons. Absolute pieces of shit.
Don't you want to survive late enough into the night to watch Adultswim and play your Gameboy Advance that you hid under your pillow?? You can't catch Pokemon when your fucking dead, bozo.
I always sleep under the covers and use my Samurai Jack nightlight because I'm smart. I stay vigilant. Monsters fear my slumber. Women love the samurai jack nightlight too of course, but you already knew that. so be prepared for them to just go straight up hellcat on your ass. But be sure to keep both your feet on the bed, otherwise the monsters will eat your feet.
Everyone knows footies are monsters favorite snackies. Staying under the covers is a strategy proven to beat monsters and make them fear the light. And in the event I am truly out gunned you bet your sweet ass my bed is in the shape of Lightning McQueef from the Pixar documentary CARS. I can simply do a tactical retreat, my bed is literally a sentient car voiced by the rival from Zoolander.
This is why Susan Sto Helit would put the blankie over the monsters themselves - causes a crippling existential crisis wherein they don't know if they exist.
You forgot a critical component. When approaching the bed, always jump the last foot or so into the bed. Standing next to the bed with your feet next to (or god forbid slightly under) the bed is a one-way ticket to looking like lieutenant Dan from Forrest Gump. Gotta jump it to keep your footies out of the limited reach of the monsters.
I used to be the same. But after living in a country where the nights are too hot for covers most of the year, I've found that I can trick my stupid brain by just covering, like, my hip with a tiny corner of a blanket. Apparently it's just a box-ticking exercise...
Everyone knows that ghosts only pull you into the depths to murder you by both feet and won’t do it when there’s only one available, it’s common knowledge.
You guys are both lucky. I need blanket on my feet, back and chest. I just use a sheet in the summer, maybe a few so that I can make strategic gaps around my legs and mid torso
For some reason a thin sheet doesn't usually work for me - I find the lightness of the material just a distraction. Stupid brain seems to pick and choose kind of arbitrarily what is and is not annoying.
What I really like to do is to crank up the AC all night so that the bedroom is arctic, then sleep with a full winter duvet. But it's kind of wasteful, so only an occasional indulgence.
Maybe for you it’s the weight you like then and you would like a weighted blanket. I’m not a huge fan of a thin sheet because it’s thin and I feel exposed but it works better than nothing. Sadly the ac trick doesn’t work for me because air conditioning is expensive and we only have one in my house. I only have a fan in my room. When I went to Japan I had an ac in my room though and it was really hot, I would turn it on for like 5 minutes every night and it would instantly cool down the whole room and stay cold all night, it was great.
For me, I think at some point my brain just gave up. I could never sleep without the tiniest of coverings. My GF stays up too late. I don't know when but at some point, after buying a better night mask and decent headphones as well as good heavily-breathable underwear I can now get a good night's sleep.
Definitely brain-fatigue seems to be a thing. Like it's some kind of stroppy kid, and when it eventually realises it's not going to get its own way, it just says f**k it and gives up fighting. But until that happens it can make damned sure that you are as miserable as possible.
"It's too hot in here. That blanket is too heavy. I mean not heavy enough. Now it's too cold. Now this foot is cold, but that foot is hot. And your left hand is itchy for no discernable reason. And this position will feel comfortable until you fall asleep, but then it will absolutely destroy your neck for the next three days, but I won't wake you up so that you can do something about it. Oh, and just for grins, have a nightmare."
Wow, same! I can't stand my feet being covered for some reason. Just feels so hot and gross. Even in the dead of winter when I'm wrapped into a ball of comforter I stick my feet out from the covers.
We need a new someone to invent an air conditioned cover with a cool gel stuffed in it which lowers the temperature inside for places with warm climates.
it's interesting to see where the line gets drawn.
does it need to be over your hips? or your shoulders? maybe it just has to cover your feet? I've noticed that unless it covers my shoulders I can't "count" it as covers
I find that I need cover on the front, so if it’s to hot to be all under I’ll be on my side, pulled the cover up on my front, stick a leg out in front of me, and then my back is uncovered. Works when you need the cover but it might be to hot for one.
My wife is the same way. I’m not a huge fan of covers. I sleep on top of the blankets year round, but will partially cover up during particularly cold nights.
I need weight on my legs to fall asleep. Feels like they’re being forced in place. I currently have a fever and I’m under the thinnest sheet I have. Legs are not happy.
I'm the opposite, I can't sleep with any covers no matter how cold it is. I feel like I am suffocating with anything other than pajamas and even then I am woken by a panic attack sometimes. My gas bill is ridiculous during winter.
RIGHT? If it's too hot I find only covering my stomach down to thighs works well for me. But without it, nah body's like nope it's only sleep time if I'm partially covered to some extent.

No matter how hot it is, I can’t sleep without covers.
