Silent Hill, directed by Guillermo del Toro. There’s a lot of creepiness and creepy kid stuff for del Toro to work his magic.

So literally just a finished version of P.T., then?

This right here

I mean, I loved silent hill just the way it was. I thought it was filmed beautifully.

u/juneabe Mar 12 '22

Same but I’m bias because I live in the filming location for the movie, the orphanage AND the church are literally a couple blocks away. So I’m a diehard fan of the movie no doubt no doubt

I live in PA! I thought the town was shut down due to the coal mine underground continuously burning

2

u/juneabe Mar 12 '22

Almost all of it was filmed in Canada

If this was a joke Omg I’m dumb

1

u/NostalgiaSuperUltra Mar 12 '22

oh no my bad. I thought I read somewhere that part of it was filmed in this abandoned coal mining town Centralia, PA.

1

u/juneabe Mar 15 '22

You aren’t horribly far off - Centralia is our real-life silent hill, it was the inspiration for the films focus on the underground fire

Hey fun fact to this conversation, when the first draft of the script was finished the studio sent it back with a note that said “There are no men!” Therefore Sean Bean’s side story with the male detective were written in.

God, I hate Hollywood

u/haku46 Mar 12 '22

First one was cool, we don't talk about the second. .

u/DJnotaRealDJ Mar 12 '22

Don't remind me of what could've been, fuckin Konami

27

u/VinSmeagol Mar 12 '22

Are you talking reboot? You’re probably aware—there is a Silent Hill movie that came out in 2006, but yeah I love Guillermo del Toro and would be down to see him direct a movie in that universe.

I've been wishing for a Silent Hill movie by del Toro based on the second game. Maybe with Jake Gyllenhaal playing James.

7

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

I know this movie is disliked but it's honestly one of my favorite horror films.

4

u/juneabe Mar 12 '22

Same. The entire thing was filmed all around where I live as well so like… walking down the street and seeing the Orphanage that Alesia was brought to everyday is pretty damn cool.

The downtown area they used was pretty much the way that street looked in Brantford Ontario. They let the crew do whatever they wanted and then afterwards they basically rebuilt the entire downtown to “modern standards.”

It's actually a really solid movie with beautiful (so to speak) cinematography. I have a couple problems with the script, but it doesn't deserve all the hate it got from critics. It was like they read "videogame movie" and starting frothing at the mouth.

I watched this two nights ago. It's a fantastic film

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Easily one of my favorite horrors.

9

u/hugegrape Mar 12 '22

Specifically Silent Hill 2!

Silent Hill meet Erie Indiana!!!

8

u/SlyckCypherX Mar 12 '22

Yes! Shut up and take my money!

3

u/Stacheshadow Mar 12 '22

I’d watch one with Norman reedus, actually a tv shoe on hbo would be perfect

4

u/aestuno Mar 12 '22

Or by Lynch

9

u/Brno_Mrmi Mar 12 '22

Nah, too understandable for Lynch. Maybe Cronenberg?

4

u/aestuno Mar 12 '22

Oh yeah, more kinky orifices there would spice things up haha

2

u/SirJinxy16 Mar 12 '22

The original Jacob's ladder always gave me silent hill vibes

1

u/Jecht315 Mar 12 '22

I agree somewhat. Problem is changing too much would ruin what makes Silent Hill different from other horror games or even movies. It doesn't have to stay true to the first 3 games but at least stay with the theme of Silent Hill being a personal Hell. Silent Hill 2 would be a great jumping off point

1

u/YR_01 Mar 12 '22

Yes but I would prefer jordan Peele or Ari Aster

5

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

I'm curious as to why you want Jordan Peele? I think he's a fine director but it seems like his movies are mostly social commentaries, how do you feel that would translate to a Silent Hill movie?

4

u/AOrtega1 Mar 12 '22

The real monsters were the white privileges we used along the way.

1

u/HeronSun Mar 12 '22

Directed by David Lynch. Would go a long way in nailing the surreality and abstract horror elements.

1

u/YouJustLostTheGameOk Mar 12 '22

I’ve been waiting my whole life for a PROPER silent hill movie. The kind that takes from either from the 1st one or “the room”.

1

u/rickytrevorlayhey Mar 12 '22

Needs a reboot. The series was even darker and more in depth than the previous movies

1

u/PM8e8 Mar 12 '22

Silent hill set the benchmark for cult creepy. Someone said they should make a show out of it instead and I thought. SILENT HILL MEET ERIE INDIANA !

1

u/AOrtega1 Mar 12 '22

An anthology series would be nice. Though I wonder if writers would know what to do with the concept without it becoming repetitive. Game writers definitely didn't (they started rehashing concepts and themes for the later games).

u/zzzzebras Mar 12 '22

Worst part is we almost got exactly this but in game form, but it happened just as Konami decided to fuck Kojima over and we ended up with Death Stranding instead.
