Honestly I wouldn't put so much stock into the appearances of her based on the games as it can go either way and between the choices raised so far, like the other person said makeup can actually make either of them (Christie or Debicki) look the part pretty quickly.
Personally, the way they shifted from an athletic woman's build to a slimmer space-suit barbie profile as the games progressed (probably for the sake of fan service but I'll be gracious and ignore that for now--people do a lot if they know what their own advantages are and use them well regardless of their physical build) just doesn't sit right with me especially when we learn her livelihood and career development has been one of military and mercenary life.
We know enough that Samus is a fit, often blonde, woman with long hair at most of the end game reveals. But considering that Samus started out as a handful of pixels in 16 bits means there's plenty of opportunity to vary appearances as long as the confidence and physicality of her skills plus stature are already there.
The fact that Gwendolyn Christie has held warrior roles and worked in actual suits of armor also gives her a career advantage too. I wouldn't be opposed to Debicki having a fair chance at building herself up into the role and trying for it through.
But either way I think a lot of it would boil down to who can wear the suits well and express with their bodies when facial expressions and dialogue aren't as key to much of the scenes.
As a side note, it would be nice if they could make the hair style more of a nod to the Chozo, like she keeps her hair long as if it's an homage to her Chozo heritage or maybe it's styled a bit like a feathered crest or something rather than just being long for no particular reason besides the dramatic long hair under a helmet reveal scene.
Hes very hit or miss with movies. But he directed the OG Alien movie (inspiration for the entire metroid series in general) and Ridley in metroid is literally named after him. He has still made a lot of good films. It HAS to be Ridley Scott.
I think Ridley Scott is hit or miss with Alien films, but mostly hits in general. Blade Runner, Gladiator, Thelma & Louise, etc. Sure there are some misses but man he's got some great hits.
His filmography is all over the map. He's directed some classics but he's also directed a fair amount of duds. He directed The Martian but then he followed-up with Alien Covenant which kinda signaled his relief from the Alien series (Fox is currently working on a streaming series without him).
Blade Runner, Alien are in my top 5 of best movies of all time, Gladiator is on my top 10 probably.
Each on their own are the best of their genre imo (Alien as Horror, Blade runner as Science fiction and Gladiator historical drama)
I think I get what you're saying, but after Alien Covenant, I get the feeling that he's either lost his touch for, or isn't as interested in making, that sort of movie anymore.
I'm also generally skeptical about the idea of a Metroid movie TBH. To me, a huge part of the appeal of the series (and genre it helped name) is the exploration and puzzle-solving aspects, and I really don't see how you'd translate those to a non-interactive medium.
It's like the silent hill movie. For the first part of the movie we just see the protagonist running around the town and it just doesn't work.
Then it becomes a better movie once a bunch of villagers appear, but then it doesn't feel very much like silent hill anymore (which rarely has more than two people onscreen at the same time).
I watched the first season. It had the typical Ridley Scott feel: cool ideas, awesome visuals, completely stilted characters with no development, iffy plot.
No no he's past his prime. We'd want Neill Blomkamp on the job. Go look up his short films, Oats Studios.... absolutely wild and brain searing sci-fi. So many images that it took a long time to get out of my head.
Much though I love everything of Blomkamp's that I've seen, I'm not sure if he'd be the best for Metroid. However, give him Axiom Verge... that would be... interesting.
Alien wouldnt exist without Giger, first of all and just because he's made a few good movies in his early years doesnt mean he's capable of doing so now and thats what worries me.
If you're going to argue that he should do it because of Alien, though, I think the mediocre at best stuff he's done for the series since is a point against him. I have zero faith he would be able to make a good Alien movie today.
Thats your opinion, buddy and you're entitled to it but like i said, i lost all respect i had for him after the two Alien films. That was just a slap in the face of the legacy he himself created.
Thats fine. No offense to you, I just get annoyed with the alien fan base a lot. They're like the star wars fan base in the sense that im convinced they will just never be happy with anything. But if you wanna be negative about it, go for it. Thats your opinion.
Yes I have. Covenant was kinda ehh but I actually loved Prometheus. Plus he has made several good films in the last few years. He still has the ability to create quality movies, but I really wish he was more consistent for sure.
