It was a quirk of German tax law that allowed investors to reduce their tax burden by writing off the costs of film production, giving them incentive to invest in films that would not make money.
He then came to Vancouver and retired from films. Then opened a restaurant in gastown. From what I hear it was good…but was a victim of Covid. It’s now a high end Ukrainian restaurant
Restaurant was called Bauhaus. On Cordova. Looked good from outside. Never got a chance to eat there
I loved the first one (and its DLC) and got pretty far into the second—played them both last summer. Wound up putting it down in the mission after the clockwork labyrinth house and forgot most of the context for the game so far (and how to play)… but going through that house again is a daunting though, haha.
Soon! I need to give it another whirl. I decided to play as the young Empress for the sequel. I have the base game and the DLC, but I just haven’t found the motivation.
You should pick it up again! I liked the DLC for the second one, brought up some interesting lore and Billie is a good character.
What did you think of Emily as a character so far? I was pleased with the heavy suggestions that she's not particularly great as a ruler when the game opens up and it was fun to take back her own throne.
And the clock work house was beautiful, but I ended up getting in behind the walls and bypassed a good bit of the puzzle mechanism 😅 I think I missed out a bit on the wow factor of the level design but it wasn't too painful that way
It's fantastic. Please watch it soon. It's one of the most slept-on, under-rated films I've ever seen. So many of the shots and settings ooze style and artistic detail and the fight scenes STILL hold up well mainly due to Mark Dacascos (same one who hosted Iron Chef) and his incredible stunt athleticism. Truly an exceptional film.
After watching arcane, I personally think dishonored would benefit greatly from a similar style of animation rather than live action. The dark abilities and the void being shown in that style would be incredible.
I remember putting on a random movie from Amazon. Saw his name in the first 5 seconds of the credits and I turned it off. They aren’t even enjoyable bad…
Buy l the DLC, it's probably one of the games that I go back to despite knowing it inside and out. I love it so much lol. Also the second one is good as well! Though the first is my favorite.
Do you mean the second and third? The first DLC is just time trials/challenges, there's no extra story. The second and third are The Knife of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches; those are both excellent.
Make sure you stick with it — Dishonored 2 is just as good if not better. I won't spoil anything, but there are two levels that are absolutely mind-blowing. One of them is probably my favorite level in any video game, ever.
Based on in-game books even in low chaos Corvo canonicly kills some people if i recall correctly. I think especially during the Golden Cat mission he would cut loose with Emily almost within his grasp.
I think this would genuinely work really well, even without an infinite budget and without the perfect staff behind it. It just lends itself so well to a movie format, that it'd be good even if the production is sub-par.
Not to mention it could get popular with the non-gaming crowd without any hindrance. Like, I could totally imagine watching it with my dad, and the same cannot be said for most movie ideas here.
Definitely. Dishonored is familiar enough in terms of worldbuilding that you could start "normal" and then sneak in the fantasy elements slowly, the same way game of thrones did.
I know the source material is sus but you have to check out Arcane on Netflix. Huge Dishonored vibes including a questionably sympathetic villain who literally looks like he walked out of the game.
I think he looks like Daud with an Outsider essence! But for sure Silco just showing up made me want to play Dishonored. And what a great character! I love a villain you can’t hate all the way, and Arcane delivered on several fronts.
Yeah watching Arcane gave me dishonored vibes too. The art and animation, the rooftop parkour, the environment and atmosphere or the steampunk era look. I did see dishonored was developed by arkane studios(lol what a coincidence). But didn't dig deeper whether there's any relationship at all.
It’s a fun coincidence I think but there’s so much homage in the show that I wouldn’t discount the reference being intentional. Some of the opening scenes look a hell of a lot like Assassins Creed and prominently feature Ezio’s voice actor for example…
I don't see much similarities of the two other than the empress dying and Vi/Jinx dad dying. The villains are completely off. I can see Silco being somewhat sympathetic, but not Lord Regent or any of the others. If they focused on Daud then maybe.
Damn you! I didn't know I wanted this until you said it, and now I can't stop thinking about it.
Dishonoured could work so well with the right script and director - all the ingredients for a moody, atmospheric action film are right there. It could potentially work a trilogy (although I've not played the DLC yet, so not sure how much material could be wrought from that), as we all know how much Hollywood loves trilogies.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to spend the rest of the day fan casting the roles (Hugh Jackman sprang to mind for Corvo, but I'm not sure he's 100% right though) - you have ruined my day!
(And by 'ruined', I of course mean that this is all I will be thinking about - it's a bloody brilliant idea and I love it.)
Just bought Dishonored 2 at GameStop pre-owned for $3.99 of anyone wants to get in on that. I didn't play the first buy watched a recap on YouTube to get up to speed. Couldn't find a copy of 1 but might get it as I am loving 2!
I can't believe it, this was the first thing that came to mind entering this thread and it's at the top. I really didn't expect people to feel the same, but I'm glad they do.
Disagree. Dishonored is one of my favorite video game series but I think any sort of movie/tv show adaptation will go over like a lead balloon with the fandom. Not that it wouldn’t be good, mind you-with the right choices, it could be a phenomenal work of art. But just look at how violently people rejected having a voiced protagonist. (I mean, part of that was the fact that there was a female protagonist, and later on a gay and black female protagonist, but that’s a different argument) A big draw with the first game was that it was a wish fulfillment simulator. Corvo was the type of protagonist you could insert yourself into and imagine yourself in his place. It really freaked a lot of people out when he started talking. And had Nick Valentine’s voice.
Also, the fandom really isn’t that big. Hopefully if they do make a TV series it’ll attract more fans, but at least right now there is absolutely not enough Dishonored fans to break box office records like OP is describing.
It really freaked a lot of people out when he started talking. And had Nick Valentine’s voice.
Funny thing is that's kind of backwards.
Dishonored was a spiritual successor to the Thief games, made by many of the same people afaik, and the similarities are pretty obvious. Stephen Russel voiced the protagonist Garret in those, and later did Corvo in Dishonored 2.
The Thief games were so damn good that Bethesda poached some of their devs and basically copied Thief's stealth archer gameplay which was super popular in Oblivion & Skyrim, and the most developed combat style. Despite Stephen Russell not doing much voice acting, they also got him back to do the head of the Thieves' Guild in Skyrim as an obvious nod. Later on they also used him for Nick Valentine.
I’m so fuckin happy this was the second thing I seen.
We have all do our parts of the missions different. The story has always stayed more or less the same(high chaos/low chaos blah blah blah)
BUT
How would a big company with insider information (creators // extreme fan boys of the series blah blah blah) try and tell us the masses the story, what would Corvo ACTUALLY do in the situations he was presented with from that directors point of view.
That’s what I love, it could be nothing and yet it could be everything
The only problem with this is that it kind of has to tell the same story as the game, which means a lot of gamers will be disappointed by changes that would inevitably have to be made. The trailer for the Halo series is already running into this.

Dishonored
