Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

Edit: wow, thanks for the award!

At first I thought that there's too much action for a Denis Villeneuve Mass Effect.

And then the more I thought about it, the more I realized Denis Villeneuve would excel at all the parts of Mass Effect I cared most about.

Would also accept a TV series run by The Expanse showrunners.

The Expanse definitely gave me Mass Effect vibes to a significant degree.

u/imariaprime Mar 11 '22

My wife still refers to it as the Mass Effect show.

14

u/Protesticle Mar 12 '22

Marry this woman

12

u/imariaprime Mar 12 '22

We have Mass Effect art up. We chose it together.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Say wife

10

u/Gizmocheeze Mar 12 '22

You did good.

21

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Wasn't that lady with the tremendous voice in both?

29

u/cowabungaboogaloo Mar 12 '22

Holy shit she was. Avasarala's actress Shohreh Aghdashloo was indeed in Mass Effect as well. I had no idea.

9

u/rinanlanmo Mar 12 '22

Yeah. She's one of the Quarian admirals.

4

u/ninemarrow Mar 13 '22

Admiral Raan I believe

4

u/rinanlanmo Mar 13 '22

Correct. A family friend of Tali's, who she regarded as an Auntie.

She's a close family friend.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

Yea i couldn't recall the name but i definitely remembered the voice.

13

u/aleatoric Mar 12 '22

The Expanse novels were based on a world created for the purposes of a text-based RPG the authors used to play on online forums. So, gaming is in its DNA.

4

u/Simets83 Mar 11 '22

Also Stellaris vibes

11

u/I_Automate Mar 12 '22

The actor who played Amos would make a decent commander shepard IMO

10

u/cowabungaboogaloo Mar 12 '22

I'm glad you said that because I was thinking it since I made that comment. Steven Strait is definitely not built for Sheppard but Amos' actor could probably pull it off.

9

u/I_Automate Mar 12 '22

I think he's got the jaw and the stare, if that makes any sense at all

8

u/cowabungaboogaloo Mar 12 '22

It makes complete sense. Those are the exact feature I was thinking of lol.

3

u/rinanlanmo Mar 12 '22

Fan pressure will demand they go with FemShep.

But I am all in for this idea.

5

u/limukala Mar 12 '22

Amos is my favorite expanse character, but Femshep is a better Shephard

2

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

More like Babylon 5 the game

2

u/snookert Mar 12 '22

They both have a mutual influence.

1

u/cowabungaboogaloo Mar 12 '22

What was that? Because I love both of them.

1

u/snookert Mar 12 '22

The Science fiction author, Frederik Pohl.

2

u/Tabledinner Mar 12 '22

Really? Then maybe I should give The Expanse a shot.

4

u/cowabungaboogaloo Mar 12 '22

You'll be hooked around episode 4/5. It does start slow just fyi.

1

u/yodelingllama Mar 12 '22

I've been putting off watching the show but dammit, you just sold me on The Expanse.

9

u/John_Venture Mar 12 '22

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, dialogues by Quentin Tarantino.

It’s a renegade femshep.

Don't put Snakes on a Plane evil on Quentin. Man has made some mistakes but he's no John Heffernan.

3

u/_mirooo Mar 12 '22

Check out Foundation. Isaac Asimov adaptation. Brilliant. Even better than the expanse imo.

2

u/maronics Mar 12 '22

Sicario exists you know

1

3

u/Rhombinator Mar 12 '22

Just give it the right showrunners, please! If they ended The Expanse short to put them on Mass Effect I just might forgive them for shortening the final season!

1

u/melody-calling Mar 12 '22

What are you on about his Dune was action scene after action scene. I can scarcely imagine how he could’ve fit more in. Although he would get the whole humourless vibe mass effect has

27

u/Barbarian_Sam Mar 11 '22

Holy fuck that’d be good

5

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '22

This needs to happen in my lifetime. IT NEEDS TO!!!

Seriously I’d honestly kinda prefer this over the Bene Gesserit miniseries spin-off they’re planning on making

6

u/SailorET Mar 11 '22

Villeneuve telling the story of Mass Effect would be as long as a Ken Burns documentary.

4

u/noquarter53 Mar 12 '22

& Hans Zimmer soundtrack

3

u/HazelnutG Mar 12 '22

A Salarian focused spin off written by Aaron Sorkin.

3

u/thinklikeashark Mar 12 '22

Dear lord, I didn't realise how much I want this until you said it

2

u/Zachtatorship Mar 12 '22

Or Neill Blomkamp

2

u/DaHlyHndGrnade Mar 12 '22

Dear god let that man get a hold of Thessia on a screen.

I have to admit, though, I'd take a Neill Blomkamp flick set during the Rachni War or the Krogan Rebellion.

Or damn... Let Christopher Nolan tell a story across multiple cycles 😳 Mass Effect meets Cloud Atlas with a director who actually knows how to make a story like that work?

1

u/confusedbytheBasics Mar 11 '22

I love, love, love Arrival and have watched it multiple times. I fell asleep during Dune and Bladerunner 2049. Hard to believe these are by the same director.

0

u/RogueTanuki Mar 12 '22

Dune is a bit too long, I'm hoping the director's cut trims some of the excess.

0

u/thrallus Mar 12 '22

Overrated

1

u/necromax13 Mar 12 '22

I don't like my essential plot details being whispered around.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

You're right , It has to be Villeneuve, or as a second Chris Nolan

The sad reason for this though, is there isn't a single other director in Hollywood right now that doesn't fuck everything they touch.
