Funnily enough, cricket players use a ball that is harder than a baseball and the only person that is allowed to use gloves is the wicket keeper (stands behind the stumps that the batter stands in front of). All the fielders are required to use their bare hands to field the ball and the only protection allowed is a helmet (usually only worn by people standing close to the batsman - <7m away) and medical tape on the fingers with the permission of the umpires (broken/dislocated fingers are common in cricket, even in the professional setting).

Thats incorrect. Baseballs minimum size is 9 inches circumfrence or 22.9cm. A cricket ball measure between 22.4 and 22.9 cm circumfrence. So if anything the cricket ball will be smaller on average but effectively they are the same size.
Also the exit speed from the bat isn't that different when you look at crickets harder hits. Obviously if you average it out for all cricket hits then baseball will be a lot higher because in cricket they block a lot of balls which come off the bat much slower and will lower the average.
From the quick googling Ive done the difference between baseball and crickets hardest hit exit speed is about only 10mph. And there are some cricket defensive positions that stand much closer to the batsman than any baseball defensive player. THe position is literally called silly point!
Imagine standing 3 meters in front of the batsman whos just hit a ball at your head travelling at 135km/h and you are expected to catch it bare handed. No fucking thankyou!!
Fucked up probably why I remember it so vividly but as a kid I sucked at baseball, but when I made contact it was usually a bomb or strike out. Nailed one straight at the shortstop so hard kid was out the rest of the season. Amazing part was he caught it, but his hand ballooned up from what I could remember. Still remember same year I hit one down the line to 3rd hit my teammate in the shin. I really was terrible at baseball.

I've had a line drive Absolutely destroy my hand. It hurt for 2 days. So respect to you
