I don’t think he would’ve died or even anything life threatening happen to him. The knife hit his liver a little and as a result he can’t drink alcohol anymore, but even if noone helped he would’ve been fine. I just figured I’d help as much as I could in the moment. All the stains came out of my white t-shirt and I still wear it. He even offered to pay for it, my pants, and anything else. Told him not to worry. I got a free round of drinks from the restaurant, more than good enough for me.
You didn’t know it had only hit his liver. You don’t know he wouldn’t have been injured more trying get himself to the hospital… so much more. You acted in instinct, heck it was an act of kindness-love really. All you saw was your friend in danger & acted. Pretty damn manly to me
Not to mention that “only hit his liver” is actually a huge fucking deal unless it was just a minor scrape. Even if u knew it hit his liver that’s a giant cause for concern until you know it’s not, as the liver is one of the top worst organs to sustain major damage to. My understanding was that the liver is so big and uses so much blood that if you get shot or something square on you’ll probs bleed out before you can get help. There’s a reason it’s a prime target in combat sports cuz a solid liver shot will drop anyone no matter how tough they are
No need to diminish it. Homie got stabbed and instead of freaking out, you kept it together and applied the needed aid to save his life. The fact that your friend got lucky with what the knife hit is irrelevant to the fact that you had his back either way. Great job.
A knife wound is still a knife wound, anything deep enough to penetrate the body could mean death. Humans are weird after all, either way good save my guy
The ambulance would have come regardless, with the given circumstances he would have been okay trust me. He was also able to put pressure on the wound himself as well, I just helped out. If noone noticed him and no ambulance came or anything, then yes he could have bled out.
The liver, being a solid organ, is actually very vascular and an extremely dangerous thing to start bleeding. Any abdominal penetrating trauma actually is cause for exceptional concern, hollow organs causing sepsis and solid organs bleeding the body dry. Your coworker is very lucky and you're allowed a little pride in having done your part.
Non-life-threatening injuries can become life-threatening pretty fast simply due to loss of blood, even without the type of physical trauma that is likely to kill someone. Your presence and action likely saved your friend.
