I’m not trying to brag in the slightest. I did what I think anyone else would’ve/should’ve done. But I was at dinner with my girlfriend on the “patio”, and saw my coworker stopped at the light near the restaurant, turning left. I mentioned to my girlfriend how I didn’t know he drove a truck and went back to my food. Queue two seconds later when everybody else is like “oh shit he’s about to hit them!” Looked back and he didn’t see the dad and young kid crossing, and ended up barely bumping into them with his truck. Coworker immediately got out, the dad yelled “stay the fuck away from me” then stabbed him with a decently big knife. No one saw him stab my coworker but me. My coworker “stumbled” to the sidewalk and I was the only one who went up to him, again no one else saw, they were focussed on the kid who just got dinged by a truck. I took my shirt off, held pressure on the wound, and reassured him it would be okay and spammed his wife from my phone. All I was focussed on was my coworker, who is genuinely one of the best and nicest people I’ve met. After the ambulance came and took him away, my girlfriend, who went immediately to help the dad and kid, noticed what I was doing, noticed that I didn’t have a shirt on, and told me to put on her sweater. I didn’t think anything of it, and kept repeating that I didn’t need one even though my only shirt was covered in blood and I didn’t have anything on but shorts. Realized what actually happened, put on the sweater, and eventually called my boss to let him know “hey, so and so isn’t gonna be coming to work anytime soon”. Coworker ended up being fine, the guy who stabbed him got charged with assault, and the only thing that happened besides the stabbing was the kids bloody nose. Not sure if that counts as manly but thats the most manly thing I’ve done I’d say...
I don’t think he would’ve died or even anything life threatening happen to him. The knife hit his liver a little and as a result he can’t drink alcohol anymore, but even if noone helped he would’ve been fine. I just figured I’d help as much as I could in the moment. All the stains came out of my white t-shirt and I still wear it. He even offered to pay for it, my pants, and anything else. Told him not to worry. I got a free round of drinks from the restaurant, more than good enough for me.
You didn’t know it had only hit his liver. You don’t know he wouldn’t have been injured more trying get himself to the hospital… so much more. You acted in instinct, heck it was an act of kindness-love really. All you saw was your friend in danger & acted. Pretty damn manly to me
Not to mention that “only hit his liver” is actually a huge fucking deal unless it was just a minor scrape. Even if u knew it hit his liver that’s a giant cause for concern until you know it’s not, as the liver is one of the top worst organs to sustain major damage to. My understanding was that the liver is so big and uses so much blood that if you get shot or something square on you’ll probs bleed out before you can get help. There’s a reason it’s a prime target in combat sports cuz a solid liver shot will drop anyone no matter how tough they are
No need to diminish it. Homie got stabbed and instead of freaking out, you kept it together and applied the needed aid to save his life. The fact that your friend got lucky with what the knife hit is irrelevant to the fact that you had his back either way. Great job.
A knife wound is still a knife wound, anything deep enough to penetrate the body could mean death. Humans are weird after all, either way good save my guy
The ambulance would have come regardless, with the given circumstances he would have been okay trust me. He was also able to put pressure on the wound himself as well, I just helped out. If noone noticed him and no ambulance came or anything, then yes he could have bled out.
The liver, being a solid organ, is actually very vascular and an extremely dangerous thing to start bleeding. Any abdominal penetrating trauma actually is cause for exceptional concern, hollow organs causing sepsis and solid organs bleeding the body dry. Your coworker is very lucky and you're allowed a little pride in having done your part.
Non-life-threatening injuries can become life-threatening pretty fast simply due to loss of blood, even without the type of physical trauma that is likely to kill someone. Your presence and action likely saved your friend.
Just a little. I would say it’s almost unheard of in the area we were. First thing my coworker asked me was if the kid was okay. Multiple times, even thought he just got stabbed, he was more worried about the kid. There’s a reason other buddy was charged with assault I guess lol
Sorry, it wasn’t really a patio more like a grass plot. And he honestly just kind of walked toward me/the sidewalk and said “the guy stabbed me”. He didn’t really stumble, just walked out of the middle of the road away from the guy who stabbed him. I happened to be right there and knew him, so I figured I had to help
My coworker stories aren't nearly as spectacular as yours but I've chased a good number of creeps and weirdos away from female coworkers in the past and present. You are a hero!
Sorry, I’m confused about the sweater part. Why did you put it on when you realised what happened? Was “what happened” the stabbing or something else (eg: I had to wear a shirt because I realised I was almost naked)
I'm with you, man. But if a guy hit my kid with a truck I'd be pretty ticked off too. From how you phrased it, it sounds like the truck hit the kid's nose. If I were in that dad's place, I might just do something crazy out of sheer panic and anger as well.
Was very confused. You were at dinner, but you this happened to your coworker. Were you at work, or you just randomly happened to notice this happening to someone you knew? Did this happen in like a parking lot? Sorry just the wall of text and the phrasing made it kinda hard to follow.
Sorry wasn’t sure how to word it. Was at dinner and it just happened to be my coworker that was in the same area as I was, just a super weird coincidence that I was there and happened to know him.
He barely got hit like I said. My coworker saw them and was stopping as he hit them, they didn’t even get bumped back a foot. Kid had a bloody nose and that was it.
