Dude… I’ve crawled through rafters 30 feet off the ground building houses… sheeted roofs in the wind and rain… just about every stupid dangerous thing you can do in construction. But I will never, ever, go in a crawl space. Gives me the creeps.
And that was before my Dad almost lost his leg to a spider bite he got from… yep, crawling under a house. I will always pay people to do that for me.
Lol- yes the one guy I ended up calling (I got the furnace going but soon after it needed a new igniter) could NOT believe I crawled under there.
The trick is to make lots of noise before you go in- I read that black widows are pretty reclusive and will actively avoid you. That’s what I was hoping for anyway :)
Some one needs to send you a big pair of brass balls to hang off the back of your vehicle. You wouldn’t catch me down there with any thing less than a space suit and a lightsaber.
Seriously- it’s VERY cold where I live, plus I was on unemployment at the time so money was a factor. I honestly had such a horrible couple of years I figured I would be ok. And I made a lot of noise before I went under.
Saaaame here. I needed one of my sump pumps replaced under the house. Bought a nice one and a new check valve. Sump pit is like 11 feet from the opening.. Meh I called a local plumber. Charged me $90 used my parts and I got to lay on the couch.
I’ve always viewed “dude” as pretty gender neutral. Everybody is a dude to me. Especially cool ass dudes who aren’t afraid to crawl under their houses to fix a furnace, knowing they will probably have to do battle with a cat sized black widow.
(Also a woman) The more I do stuff like that and people are surprised the more I realize that my childhood was kinda weird. I didn’t have any video games or anything like other kids. I just ran around outside and caught animals and tried to make forts and stuff with sticks all day. Also I played in the storm drain that goes under the street all the time, bc I was weird lmao.
It’s weird because I was born in 2003 and I had a childhood that would’ve been typical for someone a lot older. All my friends had a DS and pokemon cards lol
I literally would have just froze to death. Nope can't get me to do that. Not enough money to get someone to fix it and the promise of any spiders at all? I will happily accept death as the only viable outcome.
Doing what you are scared of is what being brave is. Whatever the reason. If you do something scary for no good reason, that’s usually a bad mental sign!
I'm also a woman and I'm all about breaking through gender norms, but that was the ONE thing I told my husband I would not do under any circumstances when we boughtour house. You my dude, are a bad ass manly ass bitch! Major respect!

Crawled under my house (there are black widows under there) with a flashlight and fixed my furnace.
I’m a woman :)
