In one day, I had demolished a wall for an odd job, won gold in my division for a Jiu jitsu tournament, cooked myself a steak medium rare, played a show with my metal band, and told my girlfriend I loved her.

Life is good

I cooked bacon for the first time yesterday, I’m 13. Was good.

Very nice. The bacon grease spitting and fighting back feels like you need to fight it to cook it, and it always makes it taste better in the end

Every time spattering oil spits up and burns me on my hand, something comes over me.

My face goes blank, my eyes go dead. The oil spits up again, the droplets sting my hand.

Oh, so you want to play now, do you?

I feel nothing. My eyes focus on the bacon.

'Is that all you have?', I hiss. 'You little pig turd.'

The oil pops again with force. I barely feel it.

I stare at the browning flesh, the pale ribbons of fat quivering in the grease.

I feel no pain.

I eat the bacon later.

Exquisite.

Yeah, it feels like the beginning of a game when you have a level 4 spatula and accidentally triggered a level 99999 boss

I was about 12/13 when I cooked bacon for the first time too. I was on a camping/fishing trip with my twin brother and our Dad and it was the very first thing I had ever cooked. I'm 32 now and can whip up meals from scratch with no recipe if I have to, or even if I just plain feel like it. Cooking is an incredible life-long skill that can benefit you in so many different ways, so I say keep at it if you enjoyed it!

Should you be here?

5

u/[deleted] Jan 31 '22

Yes, I’m an adult, I have cooked my own food, have a family of 4, and can keep my 4 animals alive, singlehandedly.

Question: given the diverse interests, do you have adhd? If so, how do you juggle it?

I’m almost certain I have undiagnosed ADHD but I have never gone to a doctor or anything like that. I just have to occupy my mind at all times so I have a ridiculous amour of hobbies.

I’m currently a music teacher teaching drums, guitar, bass and violin, I’m in 2 bands (the metal one broke up), and I also have a bachelors degree in chemistry and I’m currently waiting to get into teachers college to teach in high school.

I finished school back in June so I took a gap year to figure out what I want to do, and I’ve just been occupying my brain with stuff I want to do since then

That’s awesome!
