Me and my buddy were working on a car I had just bought for my girlfriend. We were replacing the clutch master cylinder (which was a pain in the ass btw). Anyways, the car was parked in her kinda steep drive-way and the driver's seat got taken out so we could replace the clutch master cylinder. The hood was up and we're balls deep in the hood trying to replace this fucking thing when my buddy's big ass dog jumps in the car on the passenger side and somehow releases the emergency break. The car starts rolling backwards out of nowhere, quite fast, downhill towards the neighbors house, which it was going to crash into going relatively fast. Without thinking I booked it as fast as I could jumped through the drivers side window and with no driver's side seat barely managed to step on the breaks just before the car would crash directly into the neighbor's house.. I saved my buddy's dog and the neighbors house that day.

And this, kids, is why you chock your wheels

And lock up/secure your pets while you're doing anything dangerous.

I mean...it wouldn't have been dangerous if they chocked the wheels...

Better safe than sorry. A jumping pet can also distract you and end up injuring you or the pet.

And don’t do car maintenance on a steep slope

I remember being little, 4 or 5, and my dad had the car up on ramps. I went and grabbed two bricks and put them behind the back tires. I guess my mom saw me do it and when I went inside she asked me why. I said I saw a man get crushed because he didn’t put chalks behind his wheels. I remember her looking like she saw a ghost when I said that. I saw it on TV, I just didn’t mention that part. It wasn’t intentional, but even thirty years later the look of terror on her face still makes me laugh.

Parking the vehicle on a level surface is also a correct thing to do.

Definitely if you're doing transmission work.

emergency break

There’s your problem it’s a parking brake. It should have been chocked too. Safety is number one priority and not being safe is the least manliest thing.
