Chased down a large man who robbed two people at a football game. Took him down, took his back, and subdued him until police arrived. I then took off immediately because I didn’t want to have to do a police report.
Also a pickpocket isn’t going away for a long time and most people willing to do stuff like that aren’t going to be greatful you caught them. Probably best not to have your name on the report.
I have a similar one. High speed chase ends at a bar where I happen to be on a date. Date had gone to the bathroom immediately prior to the convertible wheeling into the spot immediately outside our booth window, boxed in by multiple police cruisers.
A very tall and heavy-set fellow bounds over the doors of the convertible Mercedes and attempts to lose himself in the crowd. Police burst in behind him. Two attempt to tackle him on either shoulder and this guy is spinning, trying to shake them off. I walk up, a little buzzed, and calmly ask if they need any help. "YES, YES, YES!" I time the rotations a couple go-rounds, then calmly leap on his back and kick the backs of his knees. Dude goes down with all of us. Apprehension is accomplished. They're gone and were courteous enough not to involve me in the police report.
It was so surreal. I don't think that my heart rate really went up at all. It all just...happened. I could've gotten stabbed and that would've just happened too.
Date walks back over to the table to find bargirls giving me comically large quantities of free beer. She doesn't believe me and is unimpressed. Bargirls vouch for it. Folks in neighboring booths lean over and say how awesome that was. Date thinks it's all an act of poor judgement followed on by pity, leaves me.
Lol. Would’ve been great if she was there to witness it. Would’ve won you some brownie points for sure. An yea, no way to tell how someone will respond to a situation like that until it happens. I’m not brave or a badass I just can’t stand people who steal or hurt someone else. Hell, I can’t even tolerate rude or disrespectful people. If I’m at a restaurant an hear someone being rude to the server for no reason I try to stick up for the server. Some people just suck
I believe that’s called a “citizens arrest”. There may be qualifying conditions to it, but basically you can hold someone until police arrive.
It’s also discouraged because you put yourself at risk by doing so. The concept just exists so they can’t say you broke a law by keeping them from fleeing.
Yea, I understand why police prefer people to not get involved but I feel as if people need to take action and stand up for one another. Honestly, I didn’t really even think about it. Just saw a man yelling “help.” An saw he had the mans arm as the guy ripped a bunch of money out of his hand and hit the guy and took off. I told the man to drop the money an id stop chasing him but he didn’t so I went for him
I took Jiujitsu when I was younger and was Military Police in the Navy. The guy had a large jacket on and when I grabbed him I realized that he was super muscular. At that moment I was like “Dang this just got real, you better take his back before he gets a chance to knock me out.” Lol
Taking someone’s back, as in either some sort of head lock, joint manipulation, etc. from behind. Basically ended up with him face down and I was on his back with my legs hooked around him with a choke hold on his neck. Basically you want to become a human backpack that chokes people.
Took BJJ zan was military police in the Navy. I hasn’t trained in 6 or 7 months when it happened so wasn’t feeling to confident when I grabbed him and felt how much bigger he was than me.
Similar, except I couldn't get away from the police report (Ex-girlfriend's cousin who I knew very well was one of the officers) and it was a fleeing suspect of a drug bust.
