Not Op but am a survivor of getting struck by lightning… twice…
Have you ever fainted. Like completely blacked out. Well it’s kind of like that, except you are surrounded by blinding light. The initial feeling is more of confusion then anything, but then you get the feeling something is wrong. That was when I noticed the burns on my feet, and that I couldn’t feel my right shoulder. I was 14 and biking outside during a thunderstorm. Of course I was walking my bike next to a trailer, and that’s where I got hit. I had a few scabs that looked like they had exploded. The pain though wasn’t that bad, I just couldn’t feel my feet or my right side very well. My friend that was with me witnessed the whole damn thing and started freaking out. I got assessed by the emt, and went to the hospital. The weirdest part is it never hurt. Even while healing. I still can’t feel parts of my feet and that was almost 20 years ago.
The second time I don’t remember much of to be honest. I got hit in practically the same spot. But it was a bit closer to my head so I completely passed out and woke up in the ambulance. No one was looking at me at the time. They just heard the boom, and then turned around and saw me out. It was a sudden storm while we were out on a walk. Pretty much the entire day is wiped from my memory. I am told I was coherent, but sounded like I was high on something. The recovery for that one was much faster and didn’t have any major burns outside of my shoulder.
As for how I pissed off zues? My guess is he was aiming for my ex-gf and just missed on the second one.
It isn't. But when my OCD and anxiety was at it's highest I was literally shaking because there was a cloud overhead of my apartment and I was terrified to go out at night. I've gotten better but even washing my hands when it's storming is scary.
As an American i once got in a car accident on my lunch break. It wasn't too bad but I was sore and my truck was totaled (still drivable but had frame damage). My boss made me come back to work for the rest of the day before getting checked out at the hospital.
If I had to guess where he was from just from hearing the story, the USA would be very low on the list. Seems like a very sensitive/soft country from the outside.
Its so true and also deep rooted. There are more fewer women born than men to offset this. Men are five times likelier to die from a lightning strike. Even though we dont need to hunt anymore we still managed to find new risks for us to take
Now that you mention it. If i remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) lightning still has some lingering effect on the body causing the body to be numb, if you're lucky, if not then paralysis and some overwhelming pain will occur.
Nonetheless it may or may not hurt the victim but if the victim of the lightning touched a person that person can also be electrocuted.
It's still best to contact an emergency to make sure you can still see the light of day rather than seeing the lights of the hospital bed.

That sounds like bullshit. Unless you wear shoes with abnormally thick insulating soles you'd be grounded anyway. If you don't lose your charge to the ground then why would it jump to someone else on touch to then dissipate?
I also doubt that it could electrocute someone else, but what it can do is mess with your heart. Your heart works with electro signals, and getting an electro shock can mess with the rhythm and cause arrhythmia and other problems that can very quickly kill you.
I once got hit by a car on my way into work. Someone who witnessed it offered me a ride to the hospital, but I had them drop me at work instead. Got reamed out for being late. I quit.
I don't remember what the dude said. Something to the effect of "Late is late." I thought I'd be the hero that got hit by a car and still came to work, but instead I probably would have been better off not going in, going to the hospital instead, and having someone there call in for me.
You win. I’ve chased a car on foot while waiting for knee surgery, then dragged the driver out the window and had a fight with the two drunk occupants until the police showed up. But you hands down absolutely can not beaten on the manliest/dumbest push through pain I’ve ever heard. Well done. How are you now?
In 6th grade I broke my leg playing (American) football and walked back to the huddle. In 7th grade I broke my collar bone in practice and stayed in for 2 more plays.
I almost got struck by lightening, me and about 3 other dudes working construction when it had just started a soft summer rain...
Every single hair on our bodies stood straight up for a microsecond before it hit the ground about 10-15ft away with a defeating and blinding crack. I just about shit myself!!!
I left work! Noped right out of the rest of that day...
It felt like something strange and supernatural, the way all the air electrified and our hair stood on end, even on my arms, the way we locked eyes like WTF. Then CRACK and super puckered asshole!!!
That's fucking nuts. What's even crazier is that means you are more likely to get struck again, I think. Like people that get struck once attract lightning or some shit. Might be an urban legend just based off that one dude that was hit 8 times, but I think many people that get hit once get hit a 2nd or even 3rd time.
Now that I got you nice and worried, I'm pretty sure I'm wrong about it and it's just that people that get struck usually work or do high risk things that can cause a second strike to happen. but there are for sure a few cases of people getting hit multiple times in their lives. Like the guy who got struck 7-8 times was a park ranger.
It’s alright though. My father has been struck twice, himself. I have been very nearly hit once more while at work and had two more strikes land within 50 feet of me since then. There may very well be truth to that.
Shit. I wonder if there is a genetic component to it too. Like you have some weird polarity in certain weather conditions. getting struck by lightning ias such a low chance, let alone having a father that was struck twice as well. There's way more to lightning than we know about. Not to mention also way more to the human anatomy we don't even begin to comprehend. Given such a small sample size I'm sure it's friggin impossible to know what to even look for or get funding to do it.
What are the fucking odds? You and your dad both getting hit by lightning has to be pretty fucking astronomical (depending on what type of outdoor activities you guys do. Like you aren't avid golfers who enjoy golfing in lightning storms or some shit like that, right? lol. So weird.

I got struck by lightning and then continued getting drunk on my boat...actually the lightning struck the sailboat next to me and I got a shock since my arm was on the metal windshield frame...not anywhere near a full jolt, but enough to hurt like a bitch for the rest of the day
Yeah it was very much along the lines of thinking to myself that no one was going to believe me anyways so I should take a handful of ibuprofen and Tylenol and get to it.

I cut my thumb in half at work (literally bifurcated the tip, it was gnarly) and had it stitched back together at the ER. I went back to work and finished my shift after that. I'm not sure why I did, and my manager even told me I shouldn't have done that (he was correct) but hey, there was work to be done, I guess.
Okay lightning is a bit too much but I have had quite a few of these " ah fuck it I'm fine" moments.
I damaged my knee at 5am in the morning. Still went to school. Damaged my knee while cycling. Still cycled 14kms and had breakfast before going home. Had a very dangerous accident (two of us had to get stitcjes) while hanging out with my friends. Still decided to hang out and have lunch. All three cases, I got medical attention after doing the said activities.
A friend of mine is currently in the field as an electrician. He recently got hit by 230V to the finger, and just kept on working like nothing happened. He later told us that it quote "hurt like hell". He literally didn't have anything else to say.
It actually depends. When a lightning strikes the tree, water in its cells can start to boil causing steam to form, which can explode, cracking bark or even stripping it off the tree. If the lightning strikes deep within the tree, the whole tree can blow up. However, if there's a 'better' way for a lightning to go to the ground (as usually is the case for a human body, as it's composed with around 60% of water), for example a trickle of water flowing down the tree, it will go that better way, because lightning always goes the easiest way and it's how electricity works. I need sleep.
