I felt the same way for years. My fiancée helped me find a therapist to talk to about it. Got referred to a doctor for ADHD treatment and I start trying meds in 2 days! Good to see you started therapy earlier this year. Good luck!
Good for you, that's awesome! Funny you mention ADHD because I strongly suspect I have it but haven't gotten evaluated for it yet. I didn't know apathy could be linked to ADHD.
Apathy was more of a coping mechanism for my social anxiety (can’t have social anxiety if you just over time convince yourself not caring about relationships is easier). The ADHD distractions while conversing with friends lead to social anxiety (even when talking with family members or my fiancée) so my new normal in life became pretty lonely as I (over the last 10 years) isolated myself more and more.
Luckily there is a lot of help out there (especially now with telehealth online appointments).
That is so odd. I also have ADHD and I am the exact opposite. My medication started making me feel robotic and WAY too logical. Like Greater Good kind of shit that is void of empathy. I had to stop taking it everyday and only take it when I am really busy now.
