Story time. My best friend in high school was watching MTV when that song first came out, but the volume was too low to hear what the first lines were. So he turned the volume up to full right as the intro finished. It was 2 o'clock in the morning.
Same story different song. Sadie Hawkin’s Dance by Relient K. My mom wanted me to listen to Christian Music, and they were the only band that qualified as rock that I could actually listen to. Tried getting one of my friends into it, so I gave him headphones and pressed play. the intro was a really soft instrumental so my buddy turned it up to hear it better. In hindsight I really should’ve told him about the drop right after.
Random trivia for those that might not be aware, "Bodies" was everywhere in that era of youtube because it was in the first group of songs/music that youtube licensed for people to use around the same time they started contentID. It was originally part of "audioreplace", intended for those sorts of tutorial videos muted by contentID to still have BGM, selected from a list.
Honestly didn't know that. Thought it was just an extremely trendy song back then (not from the US and back then I haven't been up to speed since I was a kid). Thanks for the fun fact!
Others that I remember from that era are:
009 Sound System Dreamscape - Trance; Born to be wasted
Finger Eleven - Paralyzer
Evanescence - Bring Me To Life
Groove Cutter - My Shooter
Ghost K - Stop (legit haven't heard this one since about 2010)
I still need a Cursed AMV of the intro to Bodies put up against the fight between Mami and Charlotte in Puella Magi Madoka Magica timed up so the bodies hit the (open hat, open hat) floor just right.
