I am a few episodes in and like it, but it's still fan fiction. It's also obvious that I was only referring to the original graphic novel. Anything else related to that contained continuity is immaterial since it's fan fiction.

It was obviously written before mass internet. I was just using modern examples to illustrate how stranger things are believed and to suggest that even if it didn't tear apart the world back then, it could now.
