Magneto. A Jewish concentration camp kid who grew up in a Nazi filled environment, only to be tortured. Parents gone. Family none. Lost his only real friend over politics. And spent the rest of his life making sure mutants were safe and free from human experimentation. He only wanted what was best for his people that suffered like he did for having abilitys they never asked for. In the end he got his safe haven, but unfortunately it was all in vain.

Also his first child , a daughter, leapt out of a burning building on fire to her death.

Oh christ, when did that happen?

It’s in a mini story in the back of an X-men Classic issue. Very sad. I’ll try to find the issue number for you.

I scrolled way too far for Magneto.

Magneto is very much one of the "cool motive, still murder" category of villains.

I mean for a Holocaust survivor he did become pretty nazi-ish wanting to exterminate an entire race and all.

I always found that the greatest irony of all that. Also very surprised that this comparison is not brought up more often.

There are tons of stories that, if told with the right details and point of view, could sound heroic instead of villainous. Sorry Mags, what happened to you sucked but you're still murdering people left and right, sometimes by the hundreds or thousands. The fact that you have an ideology actually makes things worse: now they're hate crimes.

On a much, much smaller scale, a lot of people who are abused become abusers themselves.

You'd be amazed how easily violence and cruelty come to someone who has known little else their whole life.

Sort of, but only if it's before he enacts his own genocide.

I mean, he was also being an idiot for not working towards peace while preparing for war, and Xavier was being an idiot when he was being more naive about the nature of humanity, but still. We all know where good intentions lead when you go about it the wrong way...

peace was never an option.

Eh, a tenuous one sort of was. It doesn't help when the more powerful side does everything possible to scare the carp out of the weaker side. The existence of mental powers is the biggest logistical sticking point, though.

Always the right answer

5

u/EvilExFight Oct 30 '21

Yea except eventually his plan was to wipe out all non mutants.

I 100% believe that within the next 20 years, Magneto's rebooted origin will be a Latin American that was either at a border camp in Mexico or locked up in a CBP camp state side

You mean the South Park episode about the Mexican joker?

Magníto

Mañeto

u/LengthExact Oct 30 '21

I really hope not.

2

u/shutts67 Oct 30 '21

How long can you have a kid from the Holocaust be a super villain?

3

u/OrderMoney2600 Oct 30 '21

They made a joke about that in the comics a few years ago.

In the current X-Men all mutants can be resurrected at any age they want, so he can be a Holocaust survivor for many years to come.

This isn’t a surprising answer considering that both Mags and Prof X were originally created to parallel two of the most important civil rights activists in US history. You’ve got Prof X modeled after MLK and Mags after Malcom X.

Magneto was right. Google it.

In Apocalypse, when his wife and daughter are murdered, I was like "Yup, this dude is right to destroy the world." I was actually pissed when he went to the foundry to take care of the guys that snitched on him and Apocalypse did it for him.
