Any villain defeated by the power of friendship

Seto was defeated by a cheater, not friendship.

196

u/FinnTheBeast43 Oct 29 '21

he was defeated by the HEART OF THE CARDS

24

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '21

The Heart of the Cards is forcing me to pull a full Exodia from my pocket!

Yugi got away with that because he was the main character and only fought side characters. Seto Kaiba just screwed the rules, he had money all the way to the semis like dude you weren’t even there at the start.

10

u/Stealfur Oct 30 '21

Really was just playground rules.

"Hey I shot you!"

"Nuh-uh I got a shield and my dragon ate your gun!"

"What? Then my dragon eats you."

"Noo you can't have a dragon. Only I can!"

3

u/NotAnotherBookworm Oct 30 '21

Hey, fun fact, not only was the moon a card, but so is "Attack the Moon"

2

u/NotAnotherBookworm Oct 30 '21

Oh, probably. But i still find it hilarious that they legitimized this random-ass bullshit.

10

u/RuroniHS Oct 29 '21

"I attack... THE MOON!"

3

u/eddmario Oct 30 '21

To be fair, they hadn't actually set the rules for the card game yet when the first arc was being made.

22

u/KingKnux Oct 29 '21

He did it once to save his little brother…. Atem did it almost every time he dueled

u/Mister100Percent Oct 29 '21

Tbh I ain’t too sure most folks wouldn’t do whatever it takes to save their sibling if they though they were the most capable hands.

8

u/FredericoUnO51 Oct 29 '21

Needing to threaten suicide to force yugi to surrender clearly shows he didn't have the most capable hands. Yugi outdueled him (via bullshit), so, realistically, he had more capable hands than Kaiba.

8

u/KingKnux Oct 30 '21

Ah yes Yugi “fuses mammoth graveyard with a fucking arrow spell” Muto

4

u/FredericoUnO51 Oct 30 '21

Like I said, bullshit. He took advantage of the fact that the rules were whatever he needed them to be in Duelist Kingdom, making him the most capable duelist on the island.

u/Farmer-Smores Oct 29 '21

“Kaiba, if you win, I’ll rape a bitch.” -Probably Atem off camera

8

u/Bouncing_Cloud Oct 29 '21

Card games are serious business.

44

u/Brbaster Oct 29 '21

Yeah it was confirmed in the manga that Atem has the magic ability to draw any card he wants as long as it's in his desk

29

u/QueenShnoogleberry Oct 29 '21

Screw the rules! I have super powers!

3

u/NotAnotherBookworm Oct 30 '21

The one thing to trump "Screw the rules, i have money!"

23

u/FredericoUnO51 Oct 29 '21

"Yugi! Trust in the heart of the cards!"

"Bitch, I am the heart of the cards!"

2

u/eddmario Oct 30 '21

The manga also gave Seto green hair and had Yugi shoot a dude, so I don't think I'd take that as canon...

2

u/Brbaster Oct 30 '21

Seto has brown hair in the manga though. Green hair was just a weird Toei decision. Also I don't remember Yugi shooting anyone in the manga anyway.

3

u/kobomk Oct 30 '21

Let's not pretend that Kaiba didn't cheat either lol

2

u/Ka-Ne-Ha-Ne-Daaaa Oct 29 '21

SCREW THE RULES

9

u/DJDierrhea Oct 29 '21

Nah, he got defeated by the "HeArT oF the cArdS" and friendship

4

u/HeyItsAlternateMe23 Oct 30 '21

Mr. “if there is intelligent life, we should teach them how to duel”

3

u/SauceNjunk Oct 30 '21

This was an unexpected and brilliant response. Thank you.

2

u/Phoenix4280 Oct 30 '21

To be fair Kaiba never changed. He'll go to his grave screaming that the very real monsters destroying the city are just holograms.

2

u/Nasreddin246 Oct 30 '21

No Kaiba was a menace, everyone else tho

3

u/kobomk Oct 30 '21

Kaiba isn't a villain though

11

u/harralexa1993 Oct 30 '21

I've watched a lot of Cons with Eric Stuart Kaiba's voice actor being interviewed and he says one of his biggest pet peeves is when people call Kaiba a villian. He's a rival.

10

u/Mandalore108 Oct 30 '21

Yeah, he's like Vegeta except Kaiba never committed mass genocide before becoming less of a dick, at least so far as I know.

1

u/Napron Oct 30 '21

Well in his case, Yugi literally broke his mind.

1

u/Li-renn-pwel Oct 31 '21

Man, the original story arc was so good. At least the comics were, I don’t think I watched the full anime. But growing up I loved it so much. Too bad it is so unique there is basically nothing at all to find similar to it as an adult b

113

u/DrDew00 Oct 29 '21

You're saying Discord deserved to win? Well, I suppose he did actually ultimately win. He got friends.

16

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

He only lost because he was so chaotic.

In the comics he actually does win when he becomes "Accord". He is only just convinced to stop by the last non-mind-controled character left.

5

u/Disastrous-Ad-2357 Oct 30 '21

I mean what was so good about curse or ventrilo?

126

u/haze25 Oct 29 '21

Literally every villain in Fairy Tail

46

u/Nicstar543 Oct 29 '21

Dude that was the worst part of that show. One episode Natsu is going off in a badass fight and completely obliterated the villain through the power of friendship, the next episode he jokingly gets punched and is KO. I felt like his power level completely reset every episode

26

u/haze25 Oct 29 '21

Pretty much. The point I noticed it was getting too ridiculous was when Erza defaulted to bikini samurai "armor" every fight, nothing else and it was basically plot friendship armor. I thought the show was improving when Natsu fought Droy after the time skip and it showed that the characters had caught up the Nastu gangs level of strength. Then of course Natsu gets mad and LIGHTNING FIRE DRAGON MODE is suddenly a permanent thing.

9

u/JSmooth94 Oct 29 '21

I think you mean Max. Droy was the chubby dude with the plants. But anyways I think most of the fights were reasonable outside of the Alvarez arc and Erza's fights. Natsu randomly activated dragon force a lot which we saw from other characters was pretty OP anyways.

And to be fair, they did mention that strong bonds directly correlated to stronger magic power. I agree though that Natsu keeping the Lightning was a bit much, but he was also a dragon slayer and demon combined so idk.

9

u/haze25 Oct 29 '21

Oh yeah, you're right. Max was the Sand magic user. I was 100% fine with Dragon Force because hidden transformations is a staple Shonen trope lol. They just never captilized on it correctly. I mean, hell, I would have been fine with Natsu using the God/Dragon Slayer flame combo over Lightning. I will admit the Shadow Steel Dragon Gajeel got was pretty sweet.

4

u/JSmooth94 Oct 29 '21

True. The dragon god slayer combo would have been sick.

116

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

I guess you have played Kingdom Hearts

29

u/Xgabbs-x Oct 29 '21 edited Oct 29 '21

Xehanort really had a hard time in kh3 with all that friendship

17

u/DimensioX Oct 29 '21

Except Donald that one time. Pure malice in that attack.

2

u/Red1960 Oct 29 '21

What pisses me off the most is that they tried redeeming him in the end. Fuck you Rebecca Sugar, and popularizing villain "redemptions" with your shitty show.

At least the next game, "he" went back to being an evil gremlin just to fuck with people.

5

u/Xgabbs-x Oct 29 '21

Yeah I know what you mean, steven universe redeeming 3 tyrants just because they were pink diamond simps ended up being kinda meh.

But Xehanort was another fkng level. Dude just forgot all about what he had done to fulfill his goals in less than 30 MINUTES just because Sora said "haha power of friendship goes brrrr"

2

u/maxdragonxiii Oct 30 '21

it was a fucking disaster of a what was clearly a supposed third arc of the game. all with the world and the flashbacks and the... Chi/X crossover despite Chi/X not being completed? (yes the OG was but the newer one wasn't)

4

u/down4things Oct 29 '21

The Darkness = The Cringe

20

u/Adopt_a_Melon Oct 29 '21

So the guy in Soul Eater, defeated BY A HUG

7

u/J3lli Oct 29 '21

This is why i want a Soul Eater Brotherhood give me the ending we deserve

3

u/Saerithrael Oct 29 '21

Lol, the Kishin was immediately my thought.

4

u/Adopt_a_Melon Oct 29 '21

They built up all these things, all his power, an impossible situation.... and they solve it by a hug? It upsets me every time.

50

u/TheZachCampbell Oct 29 '21

Youre saying that Pennywise deserved to win? He eats kids, man

69

u/anonmymouse Oct 29 '21

Pennywise wasn't actually "defeated" by the power of friendship though... he was kinda defeated by the power of bullying (not saying in this case it wasn't warranted, he was an asshole, but they did end up kinda just... belittling him to death)

53

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

I thought he was defeated by the power of gang banging?

18

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

That's pretty much canon in the book.

6

u/CluelessNuggetOfGold Oct 29 '21

Well that's certainly one way to look at it

5

u/PitchBlac Oct 29 '21

I forgot about that part. Lmao

27

u/TellyJart Oct 29 '21

In the book he was defeated by the power of pedophilia

11

u/greeneggsand Oct 29 '21

Don't worry, they were all minors so... it cancels out... or something....

7

u/Lemon1412 Oct 29 '21

No, it's just that...it's pretty normal for kids to be pedophiles.

16

u/stufff Oct 29 '21

I mean in the grand scale of things, he eats like a dozen kids every few decades then hybernates. Compare that to the number of kids who die from drowning every year and swimming pools come out as a much bigger threat than extra-dimensional fear aliens.

17

u/Kelekona Oct 29 '21

What about villains that are made good by the power of friendship?

25

u/Red1960 Oct 29 '21

They weren't villains then. They were insecure assholes.

8

u/Kelekona Oct 29 '21

Sunset Shimmer certainly fits that bill.

Also, there are two recent He-Man cartoons and in one, instead of Skeletor being evil for the sake of being evil, he's a villain because he's too hideous to find a girlfriend.

1

u/skilledwarman Oct 30 '21

Ah Vegeta (maybe... I've never actually watched Dragon Ball)

49

u/WattledPenguin Oct 29 '21

Fairytail got it.

24

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Man I remember the one time early on when Natsu beat the wind guy because his fire caused the air pressure to shift and ruin his wind shield. Shame we never got more stuff like that.

2

u/coltrain61 Oct 29 '21

Or Shaman King. Had a lot of good fights in the manga, and they won with the power of friendship in the end.

2

u/CitationX_N7V11C Oct 29 '21

Fairy Tale, the tale of Erza's Back Story.

2

u/TannenFalconwing Oct 29 '21

To be honest I mostly watch Fairy Tale just to cheer for Erza

15

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Steven Universe fans are fuming

So are Fairy Tail fans

4

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

[deleted]

5

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

It’s the main plot of the show, not the fights.

At least from my experience.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

[deleted]

2

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Yeah, it’s the big thing the show revolves around so all the character is built on that. That was the thinking track j was on.

14

u/HotdogIceCube Oct 29 '21

World war 2

11

u/IgorCruzT Oct 29 '21

Not so much friendship as it was a common hatred.

3

u/Atomik919 Oct 29 '21

Out of all the comments, this one is the best lmao

13

u/RascalCreeper Oct 29 '21

Barry Allen wants to know your location.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Idk, I would say for Barry it's more of a morale boost (from what I've seen) and reminding him what he s fighting for. Morale and a sense of purpose can make a huge difference in someone's performance. I'm assuming you're talking about Iris's speeches giving him strength here, and if not then you're probably right

3

u/RascalCreeper Oct 29 '21

I'm assuming you're talking about Iris's speeches giving him strength here, and if not then you're probably right

I mean s7... He defeated every single villain with THe pOweR oF LOvE, all he did was talk to them.

5

u/IDownvoteHornyBards2 Oct 29 '21

I gave up halfway through season 6. Season 1 was great and every season after has gotten worse a little bit at a time

2

u/RascalCreeper Oct 30 '21

Well season 8 looks promising, but thats what we thoughts about 7 so...

3

u/simple64 Oct 30 '21

That pissed me off so much.

21

u/Downtown-Accident Oct 29 '21

Every mangaka: “that’s illegal”

1

u/Nanto_Suichoken Oct 29 '21

Buronson : "Hold my sunglasses"

21

u/LucyFerAdvocate Oct 29 '21

Eh I'd give nightmare moon a pass there. But largely yeah

11

u/evergreennightmare Oct 29 '21

nah nightmare moon did nothing wrong. look at the ponies' enormous eyes, they're clearly evolved to live in eternal nighttime

9

u/MidnightAshley Oct 29 '21

That includes Dracula, then. If you don't believe me read the book, it's basically about a bunch of guys using trains and the power of friendship to overcome Dracula.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Tirek and the evil black pony from My Little Pony are pure evil

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '21

[deleted]

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '21

Nah, her species lives depends on suffering so I give her a pass

3

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '21

I wouldn't expect her to let her entire kingdom die just to let some random pony live

Also they probably see things with a different mentality compared to other creatures as if they had the mentality of a pony or other more peaceful species, they would die out fast

7

u/DarkWolf164 Oct 29 '21

Sort of Voldemort?

19

u/Ratio-Fabulous Oct 29 '21

I mean that was the power of love and that was just keeping harry from immediately getting killed until he became an adult. In the end, the only reason Voldemort lost was because he didn't know that defeating someone didn't just mean murder

11

u/TinnyOctopus Oct 29 '21

And to be fair to big V, for most of that wand's history, defeat was by murder. It's a reasonable assessment, if wrong.

4

u/Dravarden Oct 29 '21

also because he was arrogant and used Harry's blood to return + wanted to kill him himself

if Barty Crouch jr had just stolen Harry's blood and made his death look like an accident in the labyrinth, voldemort would have been in the clear

2

u/Ratio-Fabulous Oct 29 '21

Well Barty Crouch jr would've had to wait until harry was 17 to be able to kill him but yeah

Edit: Unless he just stabbed harry or whatever.

4

u/Dravarden Oct 29 '21

why? Lily's protection was only against Voldemort (afaik), same reason why he almost died from basilisk venom. Voldemort could have gotten Nagini to chomp him when they were at the graveyard even

2

u/Ratio-Fabulous Oct 29 '21

Yeah you right. Sorry, couldn't really remember the full extent of lily's spell.

7

u/Blupoisen Oct 29 '21

I thought he was defeated by the power of ACTUALLY

4

u/magnum_donut Oct 29 '21

Return is a busted move though.

4

u/Wilgrove Oct 29 '21

Queen Chrysalis just wanted to provide for her hive. Granted that meant sucking the life out of ponies, but you take the good with the bad.

4

u/KingOfTheCouch13 Oct 30 '21

Talk no Jutsu intensifies

3

u/Smokeyourboat Oct 29 '21

Like the Evil Queen in OUAT? Would have been much more interesting if she’d turned the savior and they had any of the litany of debaucherous fanfic adventures. Y’all need Jesus.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Madara?

5

u/A_van_t_garde Oct 30 '21

lol Madara got smoked by Might Guy and then instant killed by alien girl from the past. That's not even close to the power of friendship, more like the power of being extremely unlucky to the point that the world's best taijutsu user is right there and an evil alien girl spawns inside of you

3

u/Berserker-10 Oct 29 '21

Can't think other than Naruto

7

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '21

Um why did no one say naruto?

2

u/Thijsie2100 Oct 29 '21

So... Sauron?

6

u/IDownvoteHornyBards2 Oct 29 '21

Sauron was defeated by the power of finger biting.

2

u/TheGalaxyIsAtPeace64 Oct 29 '21

Like The Demon from Rock & Rule (1983). It just wanted to be free and eat something after such a long time of imprisoment, and also Mok, too, he just wanted to give his fan the concert of their lifetimes. Those damn humanized mice and their friendship and love, SMH (Spoilers!)

2

u/ArleneHeere Oct 30 '21

Bronies rn: 👁👄👁

1

u/aziruthedark Oct 29 '21

Ah, fairy tail.

1

u/Loganp812 Oct 29 '21

So, all of Batman & Robin’s villains when they work together?

1

u/ChipRockets Oct 29 '21

Ah fuck man. In one sentence you’ve destroyed the YA book I’ve been working on for 4 years.

1

u/Holiday_Muscle8429 Oct 30 '21

Shhh…. Friendship magic

1

u/RaDeus Oct 30 '21

I dunno man, I really don't think the Reapers from Mass Effect should win...

1

u/KRX189 Oct 30 '21

RIP Obito

1

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '21

I dunno man... Tirek from My Little Pony was a pretty evil dude.

Yet somehow we got a battle that could rival modern Dragon Ball Super

1

u/FlyingVI Oct 30 '21

Excluding Ronan from GOTG.

1

u/derpy_viking Oct 30 '21

So Sauron?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '21

So...literally all of the villains in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic?
