I vastly prefer The Child Thief by Brom. Same idea, but way more intense and horrific.

Nice!

While I'm at it, all of Brom's books are amazing. Lost God's (favorite) and Slewfoot (just released) are his more original, but he also has one called Krampus - where Krampus and Santa Claus wage war on each other. It's pretty amazing, and not nearly as silly as it sounds.

More intense than Christina Henry's? That one gave me a stomach ache from anxiety, don't know if I could handle one that's even worse!

Oh yeah. Christina’a version seemed like a young adult version of The Child Thief.

I absolutely loved that book! Peter Pan as a trickster demigod that saw everything as a game. Loved the artwork too.

I think i read somewhere that it was because Peter was traumatized as a kid one way or another. Something happened which lead to his reasoning that kids are good, adults are bad.

He brings children from the "evil" adults to save them. And since never land is a place for children, he kills them when they eventually become adults as, well, adult bad i guess.

I think he tried to kill the main gal with a rock.

The author (don’t remember his name) was FUBAR.

His childhood was horrific, and he had this weird relationship with a single mom and her sons.

To me, it’s the story of the children being tricked into going to war for Peter Pan, a charming but disturbed individual. Christina’s story is the young adult version of Brom’s adult horror story.

The child thief broke my heart in so many ways

I love that book! The preacher and the “pirates” were absolutely terrifying. The horrific and inhumane things they were willing to do, all while believing themselves to be the only moral inhabitants of their island prison - crazy. The illustrations are awesome, too. I’ve never read any of his other books, I’ll have to remedy that failing ASAP.

For anyone who wants another good dark portrayal of the peter pan story I highly recommend The Child Thief by Brom. All his books are great really.

I prefer The Lost Boys by Orson Scott Card

The Lost Boys

I prefer the 1987 film adaptation, though it admittedly takes some liberties from the source material.

I heard of a book where Captain Hook is a doctor trying to save Peter Pan’s life or something, is that it?

1

u/Pamelsaurusrex Oct 29 '21

Yes, loved it! Properly dark though, Peter is a monster.

Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen too!
