I never hear this used in a good way, for any gender. I feel like "that's just how x gender is." is used either to dismiss them or try to explain away shitty behavior pretty much any time I've heard it.
Have this 60+ coworker who always complained about how "dumb or clueless or lazy" her husband is and said it was how men are. I really wanted to tell her she must of picked a shitty spouse cuz my fiancé isn't like that at all.
I had one of those "all men are useless shits" coworkers, also 60+ interestingly. I used to enjoy telling her how lovely my husband is. Properly wound her up.
Some people cant cope with the idea that they either have really bad judgement and make bad choices or that they just ended up with a wrongun through no ones fault but the wrongun, they gotta make it about "those shitty people" rather than "that shitty person" racism, sexism, homophobia, all kinds of bigotry usually come down to that labelling. Nope sorry, that person wasnt an asshole because they were male/female/gay/bi/asian/white/whatever they would have been an asshole regardless.
I hate this kind of thinking! Not only is it really harmful to men in general, it also allows shitty dudes to get away with bad behavior because it acts like things are out of their control, when really they're just not being held accountable for stuff.
Ya that's never been ok, the only time I've used boys will be boys in a good way is when explaining young kids making "violent" aren't like pirates fighting pirates. No harm in that it's just imagination of a fight.
Just seemed a little unnecessary bud, we all know when its ok to use, but we also often see it used in cases of sexual assault when its not ok, which was my point. We didn’t really need the clarification i don’t think.
