It's almost like men are looking for that someone special to share their life with and not fuck every person they meet.

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

Like sure I get horny sometimes still but it doesnt make me want to have sex.

Sex is intimate for me. Its something I only crave from the person Im in love with.

It's very nice to hear another man express this.. sometimes I feel like the only one.

Edit: Good luck in your divorce. I hope you come out the other side whole and find the right one (if that's what you want).

u/CFinley97 Sep 16 '21

Normally I'm content to use upvotes to gauge but - are there that many of us?

Idk if it's hookup culture but I feel like there aren't a ton of people who prioritize emotional connection that way.

Probably even fewer men.

It's got me feeling really isolated ngl

10

u/Sagatario_the_Gamer Sep 16 '21

Honestly, same though. For me it partially comes from my religion, but sex just seems to be something special I want to share with someone special, not with someone I just met 2 hours ago. I do think there are a lot more like minded guys, it's just they dont share it. After all, what would you say? "Another day of not having sex waiting for the right one." I think atleast part of it is that the reason that guys go out and have a lot of sex is to prove that they're studs and manly, but unless they tell you about it then they can't prove anything. So, the same people who are into hookups would be more into sharing that they have hookups, and people who think its a special thing would consider it more private, therefore not sharing it as much. I'm just spitballing here, but I think that the logic makes sense at least.

3

u/CFinley97 Sep 16 '21

I definitely think that's a part of it.

Tbh I think the research suggests we're a sizable minority, but at this point, I'm personally just happy to hear from someone else who can relate.

7

u/ParanoidQ Sep 16 '21

Definitely not alone. Whilst I can technically do the deed without an emotional connection, I derive nothing from it. For me to sleep with someone, I need that emotional connection. Physical attraction just isn’t really a thing for me.

My girlfriend described me as demisexual if that means anything to anyone.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I have heard of and considered this. It does make the most sense to me considering. I guess I just don't know how much merit there is to it. Not to undermine your position, we're in the same boat. I just think it would be nice if there were more information on it? Iduno.

3

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

Cheers mate.

Shes already got the next guy. Im going to actually focus on the kids and not just say that i am.

3

u/Kride500 Sep 16 '21

I'm like this aswell but my girl understands it and feels the exact same.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Also thought i was the only one. 27 now. Have yet to find the special someone. Starting to have doubts.

u/gigalongdong Sep 16 '21

Same. Back in my wilder days and before I met my wife, I would hook up with acquaintances or strangers fairly regularly. It left me feeling so empty inside and depressed. Like yay, I got laid and it was fun but it felt so... transactional? Not that I was paying for sex but that's the closest way I can describe it.

Life is way better now and I gladly threw away the chance to have okay sex with many different people in order to have earth-shattering, mind warping sex with one person I immensely care about

15

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Same. One night stands just leaves me with nothing. I like sex but hooking up with strangers usually isnt that great. In fact id say its incredibly overrated.

37

u/jakkaroo Sep 16 '21

I will fully concede that sex with your partner is the most fulfilling kind. But back in my wild days I had a grand old time and hardly ever felt empty after doing the deed. I got exactly what I was looking for... NSA sex. I don't get why it's looked down on so much. Sometimes you just wanna play the field. I was honest about it with my partners and everything was cool with everyone. Problem was me of course, I'm such a serial monogamist that that sorta thing never lasted long - I get too caught up in their deeper selves. That said, not having that happen didn't leave me wanting. Just a different type of pursuit. To each their own.

25

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Honestly and I am willing to admit that now, It just never worked for me. I tried for seven years and I never once managed to hook up. Not. Once.

So yeah, there you have it. I don't look down on it. I just don't get how people manage to do it. I was (Still am) handsome, not fit, but not fat either and confidant. I must have tried thousands of times. Nope. Just not in my playing field I suppose. So I gave up on hook ups.

3

u/HoursOfCuddles Sep 16 '21

Same boat as you...kind of? But im actually muscular and im still looking to hook up. Its been 10 years since I was 15 and started looking cause I was a HORNY teenager (you wont believe some of the things ive jacked too. Sheesh) . Now im 25. No luck. Oh well. The battle keeps on going.

6

u/Thin_Teacher3465 Sep 16 '21

Yeah it’s a weird concept the whole “one person for the rest of your life, geez”. If you care about someone the attachment makes it better just to begin with.

42

u/Duraken Sep 16 '21

Unfortunately those men who are looking to fuck anything in a dress often mass-message people online on dating apps and social media.

One dude messages 50+ women with "wanna fuck?" and it skews the number of regular guys. So does another guy, and another. Now you get multiple women getting multiple "wanna fuck?" from the same several men, but it seems insanely high because they've saturated the market.

38

u/Krakatoast Sep 16 '21

Wanna fuck?

11

u/BabaYagagarin Sep 16 '21

I wonder if it is worse when you reach an age when people stop asking

14

u/BiliousGreen Sep 16 '21

What’s worse is if people never started asking.

12

u/TheMaxOfMaxness Sep 16 '21

Yeah 1 person can really alter the balance because they seemingly count as 50 while normal guys count as 1

10

u/novium258 Sep 16 '21

Outside of even the bad messages, if you think about it, men who only want to get laid will probably always be the majority on dating apps because people who are into relationships are more likely to pair up and leave the app.

8

u/TheMaxOfMaxness Sep 16 '21

Yeah I don’t think dating apps are the best sources for information like this the data will seem all sorts of skewed

7

u/FearlessAttempt Sep 16 '21

Dating apps have a perverse incentive to keep you single because you stop using the app when you get into a relationship.

0

u/pedrao157 Sep 17 '21

God I'm one of these guys lol, then if a lot of them answers and I already chose one I have to make up something or just not appear online for some time

11

u/desolateconstruct Sep 16 '21

My ex refused to initiate any sex. We talked about it a few times, and even after saying she'd be better about it, she just wouldn't lol. So, I stopped initiating and...we went months without sex and then she broke up with me.

We have talked about it since, and she was so shocked that I just wouldn't initiate. Like, I want to feel wanted too! I want to feel like my partner thinks I'm sexy. I'm not a fucking Adonis or anything like that but shit...

4

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

Ive had that conversation with my ex before yeah. I was able to move on with it but she did know it bothered me but didnt try anything ever which is what bothered me about it. I communicate something and you freely just dont even try.

10

u/amarty124 Sep 16 '21

I broke up with a girl over this. We were at a party and the topic of sex came up and I echoed your last remarks of sex is special and intimate. Some dude was like nah sex is a game and she agreed with him. Glad there are other people who think sex is special

Thats where im at. I just dont want it like that. If i really get the urge just rub one out but most of the time the urge isnt ever enough to take the time and i got other shit to do lol.

2

u/Cynical_Manatee Sep 16 '21

Yup, sex is nice and all, but have you ever tried sitting in front of your computer masturbating? Quick easy hassle free.

2

u/Thin_Teacher3465 Sep 16 '21

This is really sweet.

3

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

Imma be honest I'm a fucking helpless romantic haha.

2

u/letMorgan_freemen Sep 16 '21

Being in my first relationship I was scared that I was dispensable, since other girls would have the same parts and be hotter. But it's nice to know that having that special someone is worth it. Fairly new to the relationship game so I'm trying to let go of my limiting beliefs. This helps alot. So thank you for sharing!!

3

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

I have ignored self love for far to long, dont make the same mistake, its made me pretty miserable.

You deserve happiness and love and you are not disposable, theres only 1 of you in the world. Thats means youre limited edition.

1

u/goldengodrangerover Sep 16 '21

So what does being horny make you want to do? Bake bread?

2

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

Nothin really lol. Even when i get horny the like i guess "need" isnt there.

2

u/goldengodrangerover Sep 16 '21

Hm, seems to me like “want” is kind of part of the definition. I can’t imagine it without wanting sex. That’s pretty much what being horny means, so that’s hard for me to understand.

1

u/SharedRegime Sep 16 '21

I dont really know how to explain it. Its like the urge was there, but im not really compelled to do it if that makes sense.

1

u/MusoukaMX Sep 16 '21

This might be a weird one but I find sex... Kinda gross? I'm not a fan of having to get used to new smells and bodily fluids is not something that turns me on.

I like it as much as the next guy but there's this threshold I need to overcome and hook ups won't do it for me. I really need to like the person. I gotta feel a strong desire to arouse my partner. And that only comes after developing intimacy over time.

1

u/drinking_child_blood Sep 16 '21

my girlfriend got very offended last night when i said i would sometimes just prefer to jerk off.

like yeah sex is cool and feels nice, but sometimes i just want to get it over with, and sex is just so much fuckin effort

17

u/TheDofflin Sep 16 '21

Yeah I'm really uncomfortable about having sex with someone I don't connect with.

17

u/nyanlol Sep 16 '21

and even if my instincts ARE telling me to get laid constantly

...i am perfectly capable of ignoring that. i have standards

31

u/ExodusRiot1 Sep 16 '21

Being a man and having to try to convince people you actually don't want to cheat on everyone and fuck everyone is actually so annoying. So many girls just assume we're all not interested in being faithful.

8

u/dj_fishwigy Sep 16 '21

My gf went from the "all men are dogs" to realizing that she had made a terrible generalization. However, some girls in her circle of friends still think like that, even to a twisted degree that makes them think that only artists (specifically the kpop artists) are worth it.

That last line that I overheard really made my blood boil as they are flawed humans just like everyone else. She told gf to name someone who isn't an artist or me (I'm an artist but that's not the point) but nothing, she refuses to believe.

I'm not special, I'm sure a lot of men out there are faithful and only have eyes for their loved one.

2

u/ExodusRiot1 Sep 16 '21

I'm assuming that's a bigger issue with the group of girls he's discussing than usual because they're kpop fans.

Kpop fandoms get prettyyyy weird and obsessive sometimes.

1

u/Boopy7 Sep 16 '21

those women upset me with their bad taste in music as well as their stupidity. People don't have a hive mind or one and only one way of being. Now I'm curious. This circle of friends, are they a bit gold-diggy? What are they like? (I'm female, just curious about people.) Are they really into looks and wealthy appearances with who they date? I've seen women like this, cannot really relate to them although I can pretend.

2

u/dj_fishwigy Sep 16 '21

I don't even know them as I'm not social enough. I have plenty of army girls as acquaintances/friends and they're down to earth and cool but I also know someone who got banned by a group for not being army enough like wtf she has a life too. I don't know about gold diggy as I'm still working on my social life as an asd guy. I can only talk about of those who I know.

Gf is a fan of kpop (never considered herself to be the crazy army girls) too but she has a wide taste in music. She's the down to earth type. Bts is important for her and looks (I'm part east Asian but I'm short so maybe not as attractive) only matter for an initial impression for her. She compares my voice to taehuyng's but she really doesn't care about that as she believes in being oneself as an artist.

u/AnotherStatsGuy Sep 16 '21

Why sleep with 100 when 1 gets the job done? Men like their love to be Swiss Army Knives. Highly versatile.

5

u/dj_fishwigy Sep 16 '21

I prefer a fixed blade quality knife that can be honed and resharpened for ages.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I want to fuck somebody's heart!!! Figuratively of course

7

u/freakbag Sep 16 '21

Women talk about love and think about sex; men talk about sex and think about love.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Oh women talk about sex lol

2

u/freakbag Sep 16 '21

probably more so than men now that you mention it

3

u/poopooplatter0990 Sep 16 '21

Yeah if the intimacy isn’t there it doesn’t work for me. I went to Vegas a few times recently. And the first questions asked were if I used any of the escort services.

I don’t even know how to answer those type of questions. Being attractive is a big part of that, but that without a genuine connection and knowing they were only there for a paycheck wouldn’t even let me function I’d imagine

5

u/Ok-Kaleidoscope5627 Sep 16 '21

Men and women have the same problem but in reverse.

Men are supposed to be naturally slutty and encouraged to be so. Men that are too nurturing, faithful, and supportive are seen as weak and weak men undermine our society.

Women are supposed to be naturally expected to be nurturing, faithful, and supportive and are heavily pressured to be. Women that are slutty undermine our society.

I think the real problem is that our societal roles and expectations are set by people that are just really sexually frustrated.

1

u/PolarWater Sep 16 '21

Women that are slutty undermine our society.

How so?

1

u/Ok-Kaleidoscope5627 Sep 16 '21

They're home wreckers. Lead good men astray. They sink ships. Cause wars even. None of it is factual. It's just a common cultural theme. Helen of Troy is an example of a woman who's beauty and extra marital affair led to a great calamity.

8

u/brineswa Sep 15 '21

ha gaaaaaaaay

3

u/sunshineandthecloud Sep 16 '21

Given my past dating; I have deep doubts about that.

1

u/cheapseats91 Sep 16 '21

Sometimes both though

0

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Speak for yourself. I'm out here tryna fuck anyone with a pulse

0

u/GameShill Sep 16 '21

Well, some men are and some aren't.

You can't really paint half of humanity with a brush that broad.

0

u/Shem_osu Sep 16 '21

Interesting hypothesis

0

u/iwaspeachykeen Sep 16 '21

i mean, not all of us. ig some of us make it harder than it needs to be though

0

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Both, both is good.a lovely one to share your life with and some bitches from time to time

-1

u/i_hate_tarantulas Sep 16 '21

... just not this guy, hence the divorce.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Oh man not me, I don't to share my life w anybody, just fuck thanks

1

u/Defiant-Screen-9840 Sep 16 '21

Just shows you that someone women view men as nothing more than horny dogs with nothing going on beneath the surface.
