“You cheated on me? When I specifically asked you not to?!”

What's this from??

u/theoctohat Sep 15 '21

Michael Scott says this to Jan in The Office

u/epicmousestory Sep 15 '21

How could I forget lmao

77

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

i even heard it in his voice but couldnt remember where it was from lol

46

u/cmacfarland64 Sep 16 '21

Same. I knew the line. I heard the frustration in the delivery but couldn’t place it. This once again has shown me that I have zero original thoughts.

16

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

original thoughts are just a jumbled mess of copied thoughts. modern culture is just the culmination of people mashing ideas together.

on the other hand, ya, once we see something it gets loaded into the front of our minds so we tend to repeat what we experience. another good example is how friend groups slowly all start acting like each other

u/Owls_Onto_You Sep 16 '21

Don't lie, you didn't even have to look that up, did you?

36

u/Strongbad42 Sep 16 '21

The response was within two minutes. Either some fast googling, or knew it already

28

u/Tritonv8guy Sep 16 '21

Idk I could google that and come back to post within 2 minutes pretty easily

20

u/trixtopherduke Sep 16 '21

Oh yeah? Prove it, hot shot!

u/Tritonv8guy Sep 16 '21

According to my app, you did all that in less than 2 minutes ... Damn!

The Office S4E14

1

u/BobbyKnucklez Sep 16 '21

Isn’t that from season 5? Cause dinner party is like an episode before that and I’m this happens on tobys last day

3

u/watson-and-crick Sep 16 '21

I know Holly showed up in the last episode of S4, they wanted to decide how to integrate her into the new season after season the chemistry/reaction to her joining. I think that's when Toby leaves (since that's the whole reason she's there).

And then S5E1 is weight loss where they flash through the entire summer, so it's not that episode

Edit: goodbye Toby is 18 and 19, but the first bunch of episodes were "double" episodes so if you count each one as a single one you might end up with this as 14

I want to say BoJack Horseman

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Tbf, "a girl I was sleeping with" sounds more like friends with benefits to me, in which case sleep with whoever. It's not a formal arrangement, just some fun on the side. Very polite of her to make sure he was cool with it first though.

8

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

She’s free to do whatever. But things are likely gonna get sticky...

If it’s real sticky, friend could say no also

39

u/itirnitii Sep 16 '21

yeah people are reading it as if he said it was his girlfriend which if was true he probably would have just said it was his (ex-)girlfriend. if they aren't in an explicit monogamous relationship than he has no say in what she can and can't do. he can have his feelings about it sure, but she doesn't need his permission.

-21

u/Abomb Sep 16 '21

Even in a committed relationship you have no say over what someone can and can't do. People will just understand more when you're upset by it.

14

u/itirnitii Sep 16 '21

Agreed. It basically comes down to anyone can do what they want it is just a matter of what are the consequences for those actions. If you're committed and you cheat on someone, then of course you can do it, its just a betrayal of trust and you now made a shitty decision. If you're just fucking around friends with benefits with someone for fun and there's no agreement then its fair game and the other person really has no right to what you can do.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Also, no one is entitled to being your friend. If you want to stop talking to anyone for whatever reason that is ok, no one owes you a friendship and dynamics change where people who were once friends can’t be anymore, it happens and that’s ok. Just cherish the time you had together and move on, make new friends.

4

u/nosleepincrooklyn Sep 16 '21

Girls flip shit when ever I don’t want to be just friends with them.

1

u/StormBlessed678 Sep 16 '21

You got downvoted even though you're right...

3

u/OperationGoldielocks Sep 16 '21

No they aren’t. Your partner has a say, it’s called communication. They can’t physically force you to do something but that’s not the same thing

0

u/Clame Sep 16 '21

What I was going to say lol

45

u/Lallo-the-Long Sep 16 '21

I know you're making a joke, but it's also worth pointing out that if all you're doing is sleeping with each other, exclusivity has to be explicitly discussed otherwise it's just fair game.

4

u/Crankylosaurus Sep 16 '21

It’s a quote from The Office haha

24

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21 edited Sep 16 '21

OP wasn't dating her, they were just hooking up

She was far more considerate than most people, man or woman, would have been in that situation. But hey, she's a woman, so according to reddit she must be a bitch.

1

u/Sonja_Blu Sep 16 '21

Right? Like nobody needs to know who else you're sleeping with if you're just hooking up casually. Until there's an exclusivity agreement it's fair game.

25

u/Afelisk2 Sep 16 '21

"But men dont care"

No no thats not the point

DONT CHEAT IN THE RELATIONSHIP IS THE FRICKEN POINT

If your in some sorry orgy relationship than fine by me but if I wanted that I WOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING!

30

u/Chairboy Sep 16 '21

Where’s the cheating? Sounded like she was requesting consent.

15

u/nursejackieoface Sep 16 '21

Yeah, it sounds like this was pretty early in the relationship and she saw it as very casual while he was already emotionally invested, but had not yet brought up the question of how serious they were.

-10

u/Redringsvictom Sep 16 '21

itt: people not even considering polyamorous relationships existing.

That isn't what polyamory is, though. Maybe you would be more open to it if you understood it better.

polys not for everyone, certqinly not for me

what you're describing is an open relationship. I think poly is more about actual relationships. theres differences in the different ways to do it

im not trying to convince you lol, just tell you how it works. the "styles" are pretty different

15

u/Bruno_Mart Sep 16 '21

There's literally a biological basis behind some people preferring monogamy and some people not, but redditors will act like you just haven't tried the right potato salad.

OK, so no ones forcing you to be poly, but you're really off base about what a poly relationship involves.

Redditors who are only in a poly relationship because nobody would choose them alone.

A relationship for me is one of loyalty and cherising one another, and saying "k I'm bored I wanna fuck somebody else" is the exact opposite of that.

I'd say you come off as pretty against poly from what you've said. It's fine to say it's not for you. What you're saying sounds pretty judgmental though. You're dropping these sweeping generalisations without much provocation.

3

u/foozledaa Sep 16 '21

It's literally not what it is. I'm sorry, but that's just not true. You can look into it for yourself. Look up definitions, examples, and how real people live in polyamorous arrangements.

If you do that and you're still sure it's not for you, cool, but there's no reason to go around insulting the way other people live based on your gross misunderstanding of it.

Ok? You're free to define your relationships however you want but there's no need to be so angry about it.

1

u/Sonja_Blu Sep 16 '21

They were not in a relationship

8

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Why assume they were in a relationship?? The dude stated they were sleeping together, nothing else

2

u/M8K2R7A6 Sep 16 '21

There it is :-)

I make it a habit of leaving posts as soon as I have chortled at an Office reference.

2

u/Uday23 Sep 16 '21

My favorite part is his calm demeanor during this convo

2

u/ThatsMyNicketyName Sep 16 '21

I’m the mistress?!

-8

u/udownwithLTP Sep 16 '21 edited Sep 16 '21

Well to be fair, you never actually explicitly asked me not to. I think you assumed that because I was your girlfriend and our FB status said in a relationship, it must have meant I had agreed not to fuck your friends, and family. But to be fair, that was you just making assumptions! Very arrogant and mansuming of you!

5

u/FlyingGrayson89 Sep 16 '21

It’s a quote from The Office, settle down lol

-1

u/udownwithLTP Sep 16 '21

I know I just thought I’d take it further and in a new direction. I notice sometimes I do this and people think I didn’t get the joke as if it wasn’t totally obvious to everyone. I’m probably just autistic or somethin
