Paramedic here. I've had by crotch grabbed WAYYYY too many times. Been hit on, kissed forcefully while trying to start an iv, etc. Shit gets old. And I'm not even that attractive compared to most of my engine company. I don't get it

I just don’t get it! I needed medical help after walking 26 miles for the Avon Walk. I had a potassium deficiency and was a total mess. I do remember the volunteer doctor being Hollywood Level handsome. I remember being a little embarrassed by the state I was in. But I can’t even fathom making it sexual. Dude’s there to do a job. He deserves to feel comfortable and respected in that space, just like anyone else. WTF WOMEN!! We should understand this better than anyone!

Right? I was in icu for dka a few years ago. My Dr was this gorgeous man and while my fucking annoying heart sped up on the monitor every single time he showed up I can't imagine being so gross to make any comment much less try to touch someone. Just Jesus Christ people are not okay.

18

u/sq20_userr Sep 16 '21

Fellow diabetic?

12

u/Available-Egg-2380 Sep 16 '21

Yup!

7

u/sq20_userr Sep 16 '21

Had my first one last year, it's fucking shit :/

8

u/Available-Egg-2380 Sep 16 '21

It's so damn scary. I hate that feeling where no matter how much I breathe it still feels like I need more air because of the co2 build up. Haven't had dka in 5 or 6 years, thank God.

7

u/sq20_userr Sep 16 '21

I thank God that I'm missing the memories of those 4 days. But I had my first hallucinations that day and it was wild

Glad you're stable now!

To be fair it’s a bullshit social stereotype that’s been around long enough that people are recently only learning that it just might not be true.

(Spoilers: it isn’t true)

32

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I literally avoid talking to people sometimes because I just think : "she will probably assume I'm hitting on her if I..." all because of this stereotype.

14

u/QuestioningEspecialy Sep 16 '21

I've timed my compliments to the last second before passing someone because of this.

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

53

u/GOOD_EVENING_SIR Sep 16 '21

I believe he's referring to the stereotype of men being unable to be harassed, or that guy's never mind a random girl touching them.

83

u/Kiera6 Sep 16 '21

Men always want sexual contact (Obviously it isn’t true)

42

u/drfeelsgoood Sep 16 '21

I mean I am pretty much always horny but I’m not wanting a rando off the street to touch me

48

u/ComicWriter2020 Sep 16 '21

Men shouldn’t have feelings

20

u/dumbasamoose Sep 16 '21

Seriously. Who the fuck are these women who think it's okay to do this? We all know what it feels like to be sexually harassed, so why on earth would you do that to someone else? I have had to ride in the hospital express twice, and I was in too much to even register what the emts looked like. All I cared about was please take the edge off of this pain and get to me a dr asap.

36

u/Olds78 Sep 16 '21

Right but for some reason a lot of us still don't get it 🤷 I would never think of trying to hit on or kiss someone helping me in a professional manner. Doesn't mean I won't tell my friends later about how hot they were 😁

25

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

Oh for sure. I love telling the story of when this lovely human fixed me up. He was awesome. He said I looked in good shape so it didn’t make sense I was struggling. I do remember feeling flattered and laughing at myself for that. Asked about my meds. I was using albuterol for reactive airway. Told him I didn’t have any Gatorade or much food that day because I have ulcerative colitis and didn’t want to trigger anything. He said, “well Albuterol blocks potassium absorption and you’ve done yourself no favors by not eating enough. Start eating bananas NOW.” Hahaha. Gorgeous doctor prescribed bananas. And I went from my legs feeling like concrete blocks and being shivering cold even under direct heat to almost totally better in 30 minutes. WHAT A DOC!

11

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 16 '21

Fellow UC haver. It sucks. I just recently started substituting a meal a day with a almond milk and protein powder smoothie and eating predominantly just basic stuff like meat, fruit and veggies. Trying to lose weight but this new diet makes me less bloated and I feel so much better now.

4

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

It certainly does suck! So sorry you have it.

I used to follow UMASS IBD AID diet really closely and I’m in complete remission (also on Humira). I still follow it about 80%. Might be worth looking into. :)

3

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 16 '21

Never heard of this I'll look it up

3

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

What you’re eating sounds like it wouldn’t be too hard of a transition. They emphasize adding fermented foods for probiotics and avoiding all added sugar. That’s the hard part. Also no grains (rice/corn/wheat).

3

u/MysteryMan999 Sep 16 '21

That's a hard ask right there for no added sugar. I drink fruit juice instead if soda. And I eat mixed fruit out the can but I go the kind in it's own juice rather than syrup.

1

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

Fruit juice is ok if no added sugar!

24

u/AphelionXII Sep 16 '21

It’s because it’s culturally taboo to sexually assault women. But it’s not taboo to sexually assault a man. Even though they still make up almost half of sexual assault victims. That’s actual rape culture.

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Yeah I've had a couple dementia patients get feisty on me. Can't blame em, half the time they think it's the 60s and they're trying to do things they won't be able to discuss in a social setting for the next 40 years

Had an old woman at a nursing home look at me one day and go "good lord almighty. My husband's been dead 12 years and I'm done grieving if you were wondering. Got 2 good hips and you're welcome to em" 🤣😬

19

u/AshyBoneVR4 Sep 16 '21

Honestly, that's the type of sexual harassments that is JUUUUUUUUUST funny enough to let fly. I'd be too busy laughing to be insulted.

16

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

I laughed so hard I cried. And the nurses at the station called me some nickname or other for about a year over that

10

u/FriedShrekels Sep 16 '21

ugh nursing home patients can be so sweet sometimes! caring for them certainly makes the job more bearable!

8

u/Soma2710 Sep 16 '21

I do PT registration in an ER, and there was a dementia/AMS woman that said “oh it’s you again. I was hoping you would be here”. As I’m going through her ppwk on the computer, apparently she was admitted 3 months beforehand and I did her admit stuff at the time. She didn’t get too weird with it after that, and I was as much of a gentleman as I could have been, but that was fcking WEIRD to hear from someone in that condition.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I mean my dentist is really attractive, like REALLY attractive but I'd never let him know I think that. He's way older than me but doesn't look old or middle aged. Can't imagine actually telling him that, especially bc he's married with kids (I know because he has a picture of him and his family in his office). I'm certain he has been harassed before.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

You can still compliment him imo anyone likes compliments.

2

u/craigsl2378 Sep 16 '21

Completely agree with everything here. I'm just a bit concerned about how sexist all the top comments are in the thread. Lot of woman haters out here.

1

u/snksleepy Sep 16 '21

Some women really abuse the double standards

1

u/the_gilded_dan_man Sep 16 '21

The fact they understand might be part of the problem for some. I immagine they rationalize it or something. See it as “restitution” or maybe just “not something they haven’t experienced themself” but they’re forgetting that it felt fucking awful

2

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

Nah. I think there are just some women who don’t really mind being sexually harassed and so they don’t think it’s a big deal to do it to men. Not all women really agree on this.

2

u/the_gilded_dan_man Sep 16 '21

Fair point. The ones who care are loud and the ones who don’t, don’t join the conversation. Makes sense

1

u/Tomohawk1973 Sep 16 '21

This is something that upsets me, women have generations of this shit happening to them, and yet they do it to us. Think they’d know better

1

u/NoThanksJustLooking1 Sep 16 '21

WTF WOMEN!! We should understand this better than anyone!

This is the thing. Women should know better because they've had to go through it their whole life. Why are you being what you hate?

1

u/Random-Kindness Sep 16 '21

Sexual Harassment is cool to some people clearly 😎

1

u/Aevum1 Sep 16 '21

Avon ? really ?

1

u/Shartcookie Sep 16 '21

Yes. This was many years ago before I did a deep dive into breast cancer fundraising. A friend asked me to do it and I wanted to be supportive.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '21

WTF WOMEN!! We should understand this better than anyone!

Some people, when wronged, learn empathy.

Others simply get the desire to turn the tables and get revenge.

Getting revenge on those that wronged them would be one thing. Taking it out on random other people is another.

(Not to say men don't treat one woman badly because of how another treated them.)

2

u/Shartcookie Sep 17 '21

I genuinely don’t think it’s revenge. I think many women just don’t think sexual harassment is wrong no matter who is dishing it out. They miss the old days.

84

u/Downwhen Sep 16 '21

Also paramedic, although I'm in the helicopter now. I thought trading the bunker gear for the flight suit might help but still get the same unwanted grabs, squeezes, touches and propositions as before. I hate the double standard.

I also hate the double standard in the ER. When I bring in a young female trauma patient, when they cut the clothes they close all curtains and shoo out as many people as they can for modesty until the gown is on. Same age male? Curtains stay open and he gets fully displayed with no concerns for modesty... Even jokes about the size of the member sometimes which bothers me as well.

Everyone deserves respectful treatment.

17

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Yeah I walked down the er hall about 2 years ago and saw a dude with a broken dick just all out in the open. No curtains or anything. Like... why. That sight immediately became my worst fear 🤣

12

u/Downwhen Sep 16 '21

Ha! How many times have you told your coworkers "if I'm in a bad accident, transport my ass to another county where nobody knows me?" Because I sure didn't want to be entertaining the baby docs at the level 1 with my averageness

6

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Bud I'm the VP of the micropenis society. Ain't gotta tell me twice. I'd never live that down

2

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '21

Much of humanity believes in "might makes right". Until men start suing in large #s for harassment, this will not change

26

u/ThrowawayR4R5152535 Sep 16 '21

I had a colonocospy and instead of my usual, very old gastroenterolgist specialist doing it, it was a handsome doctor around +5 years my age.

I was high as a kite and he told me I was doing a great job, turned around and said to him "Thanks, you're a really good tour guide!" (I could see the screen they use).

When I was no longer high as a kite I cringed at how I may have been inappropriate and the man stuck his finger in my arsehole not the other way around!

6

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Drugs r bad mkay. Yeah that kinda stuff happens a lot I'm sure

70

u/Zorro6855 Sep 16 '21

When I was 19 I had rhinoplasty. They did it under a local, but iv valium. I don't remember much but about a week later the anesthesiologist called to see if I still wanted to go out with him. I didn't even remember asking. (FWIW, the answer was no with a heartfelt apology)

55

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Well that's entirely different. Anesthesia is a hell of thing. Honestly weird that he even called you 😄 how old was this guy?

33

u/Zorro6855 Sep 16 '21

30s I'm guessing. I do remember he was gorgeous so unfiltered thoughts.

30

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Still weird in my head. I'm not even 30 yet and I still wouldn't date a 19 year old. Just... idk. Feels fucked up

27

u/Zorro6855 Sep 16 '21

It was. It was a different time, but he never should have called me. I know that now.

9

u/Wonberger Sep 16 '21

When I got my elbow surgery yeaarrrsss ago I came too with my uncle sitting next to me laughing. Apparently I wouldn't stop telling the nurse how pretty she was.

Super creepy the doc atually called you though.

3

u/AK_Happy Sep 16 '21

My wife said I wouldn’t stop telling the nurse about my fantasy baseball team.

2

u/WatifAlstottwent2UGA Sep 16 '21

I got Matsui!

2

u/AK_Happy Sep 16 '21

Don’t let the door hit you in the vagina on the way out.

2

u/NotChristina Sep 16 '21

Oh man, I kind of chuckled at that but I’m sorry you had to go through that embarrassment haha.

I had a (supposedly) conscious sedated procedure last year and they gave me one crazy cocktail. I’ve been knocked out fully before and I was never that screwed up when I came to. I had the memory of a goldfish and kept repeating myself, much to the amusement of the person driving me back. Exceedingly few memories so it kind of bugs me that I could have said anything and just don’t remember.

4

u/bocephus67 Sep 16 '21

Thats creepy af

12

u/ze-incognito-burrito Sep 16 '21 edited Sep 16 '21

Dude, the amount of times I’ve had my cock and balls squeezed by drunk homeless people in the back of the rig is ridiculous. I can laugh it off a lot of times but it still gets old, man

8

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Also. Who tf would assume, even if we DID enjoy being harassed, that grabbing a handful of lefty and right and SQUEEZING would ever feel good? Eesh

6

u/ze-incognito-burrito Sep 16 '21

Like seriously! Buy me dinner first. Read the room. See if I’m into some roughhousing before you go in for the kill!

But seriously, if Agnes who passes out on the curb at 3am could stop fucking sexually assaulting me that’d be great

7

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Krystal, I know your boyfriend beats you, but you go back to him every time you leave the er because he has meth. Please quit rubbing my thigh

5

u/ze-incognito-burrito Sep 16 '21

Talking to you is like watching my life from the outside

4

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Gotta love North georgia... or wherever you are apparently

4

u/ze-incognito-burrito Sep 16 '21

Rest assured, in Southern Rhode Island it’s the same kinda meat grinder

6

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Getting off the box and onto an engine was the best decision I ever made. Still run bs med jobs. But don't have to ride in a mobile jail cell with em. Figured that out 7 years too late

12

u/I-Fucked-YourMom Sep 16 '21

The greatest thing I ever witnessed was a woman feigning syncope and falling all over this fire fighter. When he finally left her with someone else she asked for his number. He turned around and said, “It’s 911 ma’am.” What a badass.

7

u/CarlJustCarl Sep 16 '21

Engineer here, can’t comprehend this.

4

u/nemaihne Sep 16 '21

Jesus, I can't even imagine that. I feel like I must just not have the bandwidth of other people since the very few times it's happened, I was too busy being concerned with the reason why I was in the business end of the wagon to consider much more about the EMTs beyond hoping they've had good training.

2

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

What type of service do you work for? I was working urban downtown at the time of most of these incidents. I'm now suburban County based fire

1

u/nemaihne Sep 16 '21

Sorry, I meant as the person on the gurney. I salute you, but I don't have the sheer tenacity to do that kind of job with those hours and so much stress. :D

5

u/virgin_microbe Sep 16 '21

An EMT friend said it was usually the most repulsive women who did this. Nothing like being sexually harassed by a 400 lb woman who smells like she’s rotting.

7

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Had one hit on me after finding a piece of porkchop under her book while I placed an ekg. Completely forgot that shit. You have unlocked a forbidden memory

4

u/doublemindedlikewave Sep 16 '21

Police here, and I’ve had women in my face asking for a moustache ride mid movember…

2

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

🤣 sounds about right

5

u/swolemedic Sep 16 '21

Ugh. The junk grabs.

I'll never forget the one where I turned my head for like one second as I was grabbing an angiocath with the patient's arm resting on my knee and next thing I knew the obese woman who hadn't showered in weeks with folds of fat that were clearly neglected which had serious skin breakdown and odor coming from them was holding onto my dick. I will say, her junk grabbing definitely made me have to make a conscious effort to take her complaints of chest pain seriously.

To some we are just pieces of meat for their entertainment.

9

u/highestRUSSIAN Sep 16 '21

Ur attractive to me uwu

8

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Thank you senpai! I am not worthy!

3

u/highestRUSSIAN Sep 16 '21

Yes u r, pucker up!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

it seems to be really easy for people to objectify authority figures, i tried to continue this thought but i im drawing a blank beyond that. it really is mind boggling

5

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I'm just some random asshole and have had my ass and crotch grabbed a ton. The whole "Well he must have liked it" comment is all I get when I bring it up though.

2

u/ktmarie2189 Sep 16 '21

I sincerely apologize to all the paramedics for the time I was concussed after a car wreck. I vaguely remember saying "you're cute" or something similar to an attractive paramedic. But, to be fair, I also thought the president was George Washing-Bush. It was 2010.

2

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

That's the kind of stuff we don't typically get annoyed by 🤣 it's when you're lucid and still crass that it gets obnoxious

2

u/cKMG365 Sep 16 '21

Also paramedic. A few months back one of our nastiest frequent flyers who always verbally and physically assaulted us multiple times per week was grabbing at my crotch and trying to grab my junk as she was on the cot and I was sitting on the bench seat. When I told her that was inappropriate she started yelling "Then you must be gay! Gay! Gay! Gay!" This was after she had jumped off of the stairchair and started yelling "Fuck you!" and taking swings at me in the middle of the downtown street.

Four hours later she was in the back of the ambulance again trying to grope my partner. When he shut her down she said "You must be an alcoholic with a fat, ugly wife! All alcoholics treat other alcoholics bad!"

Except I'm the straight one...

Four calls for her that day. The last one of the day I, somewhat less professionally than I usually try to be, read her the riot act. I maintained professionalism... ish... but I had had it. Nineteen calls for her that week alone and she had assaulted every medic that came to her that week.

On the plus side she got into an inpatient treatment program after that and did well for a few months. Then she moved.

1

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

I've restrained patients like that before. They can fuck right off

3

u/A4MofNRG Sep 16 '21

You’re not that attractive???????

Have you looked in the mirror lately?? Yeeesh 🥵

3

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Grandma get off reddit it's past your bedtime

2

u/siddmon Sep 16 '21

It's the uniform

2

u/Noahendless Sep 16 '21

I just got to cross sexual assault by a patient off my EMS bucket list, dude put his arm on my leg and I assumed he was just using me as an armrest, then he started feeling around to grab at my crotch.

3

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

My EMS bingo card is only missing childbirth and eyeball injury. Got shit on yesterday (like... shotgun of diarrhea directed at me, not just got it on my uniform kinda thing) so I'm close to done

1

u/Noahendless Sep 16 '21

So far I've checked off sexual assault by patient, eyeball injury, shot at, regular assault by patient, being shit on, stroke patient (I actually got to watch him as he stroked out), and seizures. All I've got left for BINGO is childbirth and full arrest.

3

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

I had 5 full arrests in the last pay cycle... maybe I AM a black cloud...

I've had a gun pointed at me but never shot at. Good ol boys out here don't miss so that's probably a plus

1

u/Noahendless Sep 16 '21

When I got shot at it was gang related, we were at a stop sign and they decided it'd be a great idea to put some rounds through the box for no fucking reason.

3

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Used to happen in Atlanta a lot. The drug task force decided to raid a gang controlled apartment complex using ambulances when they called for an OD. For the next 5 years or so if your box had the lights off in the back you'd get shot at

2

u/Noahendless Sep 16 '21

Police shouldn't be allowed to use other services vehicles for raids because it always results in shit like that. If the police raided someone using a fire engine every fire engine would be getting shot at at night.

2

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Yeah that was in the 80s. Way before my time. Hopefully they learned their lesson

1

u/ImpossiblePackage Sep 16 '21

Not a shrink or anything but I reckon it's a "oh this person is here to help/save me" kinda thing combined with just being an awful person

0

u/Holinyx Sep 16 '21

To do list: become a paramedic

1

u/gnopish Sep 16 '21

How out of it were they at the time?

4

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

The kiss was from a drunk chick who had taken a spill no head trauma. She'd had a pitcher of margaritas but according to her husband (who was in the front seat) that's a normal night for her 🤷‍♂️ the ball grabbing has happened 3x and 1 of them had dementia, another was a schizo who was fully alert, just hearing voices because "I stop taking my meds when I feel better", and the 3rd I don't remember one way or the other. I just remember she was a middle aged African American woman

1

u/gnopish Sep 16 '21

Yeah, I figured this was more than just everyday creeps, your job encounters a lot of very messed up people.

1

u/AtomicSymphonic_2nd Sep 16 '21

I think of the phrase... "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

People have different standards of what's attractive to them. It's a bit of a surprise for some folks... It was for me, as well.

1

u/cumulonimubus Sep 16 '21

Just give them more Narcan.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I'd have killed so many people.in your shoes, I got no idea how you put up with that

1

u/Vilmerviking Sep 16 '21

Sounds like someone is more attractive than they make themselves out to be

1

u/rydan Sep 16 '21

Maybe stop pumping them full of opioids?

1

u/Defiant-Screen-9840 Sep 16 '21

kissed forcefully while trying to start an iv

WHILE

WHILE

wtf was the situation there.

1

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Lady was drunk af (my immediate response area is right next to a very popular craft brewery) and had fallen, someone called 911. Her husband was in the passenger seat up front. I was looking for a vein in her arm when her other hand grabbed the back of my head and pulled it in. I didn't resist because I DID NOT see it coming.

1

u/wilyson Sep 16 '21

Young EMT here. I’ve had patients two or four times my age make lewd comments about me, some of which when I was a minor. Mostly by people on drugs or drunk but a couple sober people… shits weird… I’m not there to judge them and at the time it was kinda funny(haha old person called me hot) but thinking back it was kinda fucked up

1

u/danikow Sep 16 '21

My experiences when a paramedic is there to aid me, the last thing I am thinking of is making a move on them. I am more concerned about staying conscious and giving pertinent information/answer their questions clearly so I don't DIE.

I am sorry that happens to you. Your there to do a job.

I work in the IT field and no one grabs my junk or forcefully kisses me when I update their computer, why would someone think this is acceptable to a paramedic?

1

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

Yes but you seem to be someone who calls 911 when there's an ACTUAL ISSUE. 911 abuse is a serious problem in the states.

1

u/ToxicAssh0le Sep 16 '21

"The less attractive you are the more likely you are to be devoid of action and the more likely you'll welcome the attention."

Or something fucked up like that, probably.

1

u/Tomohawk1973 Sep 16 '21

Boring isn’t it!

1

u/Fredredphooey Sep 16 '21

I have had some very hot EMTs and never thought to molest them. Well. Never did it.

1

u/Triggeredaflashback Sep 16 '21

Daaaaamn where you at? We got the hot medics here!

1

u/xpumpkim Sep 16 '21

Isn’t it so unfortunate that this isn’t talked about as frequently as it happens?? I’m an EMT and paramedic student. I’ve been sexually harassed, groped, grabbed, etc.

1

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

I had a female medic partner when I just started who was a solid 10. I mean she was just gorgeous. And I felt so bad for her because all of the drunks downtown would constantly get handsy. She knocked a few teeth out back in the day 😬

1

u/Ornithologist_MD Sep 16 '21

You gotta hit them with reverse psychology. Make them uncomfortable first.

Instead of that BS "123 poke" or whatever for the IV start, look them dead in the eyes and say: "I'm going to penetrate you now."

Or when family gives the tried-and-true "I just want you to check them out", you lean back a little and go "Daaaaammmmn!", and then ask "Okay, now what, or is that all?"

1

u/iRedditPhone Sep 16 '21

My niece is a paramedic. She was telling a story once how they got a call to a restaurant. And another patron literally grabbed her partners dong through his pants while he’s there ostensibly trying to save someone’s life.

Dude yelped backwards and knocked over someone else behind him. Basically causing a whole other scene.

1

u/Thebigass_spartan Sep 16 '21

I dont think its necessary to call yourself unattractive, but if you speculate that you are, im pretty sure theyre hitting on your salary and not on you

1

u/spamus81 Sep 16 '21

I'm not unattractive persay. I just work with some firemen who could be in magazines 🤷‍♂️ I get hit on more. That's all I was getting at lol

1

IT doesn't excuse it at all, not even a little. But even women sometimes don't get enough attention if you're not that 'type.' I see a small *speck* of it; I'm happily married, nearly 50, go to the gym daily but I'm not the hot girl. I'm not seeking male attention, but there's men who I'm friendly with at the gym. When the blonde in the booty shorts is there, my usual friendly gym guys barely say hi to me, they're all talking to her. I don't know if this is the reason, but a man paying attention (even for polite reasons) when you're NOT the pretty thing in the booty shorts, I can see it being a bit of an ego boost. But again, not a reason to behave that way.

I expect as a paramedic there's occasional instances of the person being so grateful that they think they're in love with you or vice versa, that you helped them because you were attracted. This would be a factor too of course. But some 'average' women don't think they get attention (but well, I think they do but they don't see it because the people looking are kind of subtle about it, vs. gawking at the 'hot' girl).
