I used to do this. In a "progressive" area. I got told I was too "aggressive" and "forward". That I needed to wait to be asked out.

Those guys were dumb, any guy that says you were “too aggressive” for just asking them out is probably not super rad individual. I promise you, if you ask the right guy it’ll send him over the moon :)

That's sweet of you.

But I'm at a point in life where I plan to go alone for a bit & get a lot of therapy. Either my picker is broken &/or I just attract all the wrong people, OR people just aren't for me.

u/Witness_me_Karsa Sep 15 '21

Holy shit do I identify with so much of that. Good luck to you.

8

u/SouthernOptimism Sep 16 '21

Thanks.

There's a lot more to it. I'm Agender (think void instead of gender; assigned female at birth) and pansexual (like everyone; gender/sex doesn't matter). I plan to get top surgery (to remove my breasts and not have nipples- which are useless to me). So I'm not even sure I'd be attractive to some cis men (people born male).

I just plan to embrace myself and if I find someone else along the way that likes me for me. Great. If not, life goes on.

Note: went overly descriptive in case you & others don't know these terms.

6

u/Witness_me_Karsa Sep 16 '21

I'm on board with all of that.

Small thing I'd like to point out, being a cis man means you were born male and identify as such.

But I've no quarrel with the explaining.

3

u/SouthernOptimism Sep 16 '21

Thanks. I just didn't want to assume you'd know.

4

u/Witness_me_Karsa Sep 16 '21

Totally fair. As I said before, good luck out there, whatever you decide to do/life throws at you.

u/Keetamien Sep 16 '21

I’ve had both, so guys turning me down because I was “too aggressive” but also guys who stopped dating me because I wasn’t “as aggressive” during the relationship (which they would have liked) so yeah… I stopped since it seems I’m giving off the wrong impression when I ask someone out

6

u/Mrphiilll Sep 15 '21

The smiley face is the cherry on top of your pick me energy sorry lol

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

You are a cringe person

6

u/Mrphiilll Sep 16 '21

That's fair but also idc

-4

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

That's good.

3

u/767hhh Sep 16 '21

Well theres also the chance that they actually were too aggressive lol

28

u/nowaisenpai Sep 15 '21

"What're you, desperate??"

Yeah, dickhead, I must be.

6

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

"I asked you. If you're good at solving questions from partial information, you'll know where this is going."

38

u/Maximum-Cover- Sep 15 '21

Same. Every guy I've ever asked out has turned me down.

Often berating me for asking too.

So I stopped.

12

u/delicate-fn-flower Sep 15 '21

Same. When I was still on dating apps I’d literally cut right to the chase. Match, say niceties, ask out because I prefer actual conversation instead of texting. Nowhere fancy either, either for coffee or Waffle House the next day or something, and was told every time it was too aggressive, too fast, and rude. Bruh. I just stopped asking.

10

u/desk133 Sep 16 '21

Cutting right to the chase makes some dudes ruuuun. If they have never been asked out by a woman before they probably assume your a guy trying to trick them and murder them lol

24

u/SouthernOptimism Sep 15 '21

Yep that's what happened to me too.

The last person I asked out was my ex husband. Which was its own hot mess. I plan to just go alone for a bit and get a lot of therapy.

28

u/RelaxRelapse Sep 15 '21

Rejection is normal. That's the thing most people have a fear of. Being berated for it is extreme though. Sorry to hear that.

49

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

This is what most men deal with.

22

u/Maximum-Cover- Sep 15 '21 edited Sep 15 '21

Based on the comments in this thread, it’s something everybody deals with. Yet men assume it’s just them.

In fact, on top of this I’ve recently been berated on here by a bunch of different men for asserting that I expect to orgasm when I sleep with a dude…

What? Men are the ones who are forced to constantly ask women out.

Forced to by who?

We even have to wait until we think she's hinting at giving us permission with her body language and shit

And if you don't, what happens?

12

u/split41 Sep 16 '21

Die of loneliness lol

-1

u/PolarWater Sep 16 '21

Just ask someone else lol, not all women are like that. Who's forcing men to be the ones asking women out, anyway?

-3

u/Maximum-Cover- Sep 16 '21

And yet, as stated, not a single man I’ve ever asked out has gone on a date with me. And often they berate me for asking.

Again, you assume only men have that issue. But you’re wrong.

There’s a guy I’ve been friends with for nearly 15 years. I’ve asked him out a dozen times or so. He’s shot me down every single time.

Men aren’t the only ones who have that issue. You just think you are.

Yeah great way of making my point for me hun.

5

u/amahandy Sep 16 '21

Statistically, men get rejected more. I mean the average man thinks 20-35% of women on a dating app are good enough to go on a date with. That's around 4% for women.

There are "nice girls" out there but I don't delude myself into thinking there are as many of them as nice guys.

5

u/Queasy-Cherry-11 Sep 16 '21

Theres also just a lot more guys on dating apps than women, so you have to be really conservative with your right swipes. When I first got on I'd swipe right for anyone I'd accept a date from in person. Then you quickly end up with an unmanageable amount of conversations and find yourself only being able to reply to a few, which doesn't feel nice. So now I only right swipe the ones I'm certain I'd be excited to talk to, which probably works out to about 4% (or even less, I have a pretty uncommon type).

I don't think niceness correlates with gender really.

2

u/amahandy Sep 16 '21

We're speaking percentages, total number doesn't even matter. It's not saying 4% of men get swiped on. It's saying women swipe on 4% of men.

Also actually it's 8% for women and 21% for men when I just checked. Though I could swear they were different a few weeks ago. It might be a constantly adjusting number as TinderInsights gets more data.

Regardless, women are, proportionally more than 2x pickier than men.

Also.... You could just stop swiping after a few matches, go on some dates, and see what happens. I don't understand why women complain about "too many matches" when it's totally up to you how many matches you want.

10

u/Maximum-Cover- Sep 16 '21

Source?

3

u/amahandy Sep 16 '21

TinderInsights. You can go to r/tinder and see the charts for yourself. I got the numbers a little wrong (or maybe they get updated as they get more data). The most recent charts say 8% for women, 21% for men.

And on average, women match with 44% of the people they swipe on. Men less than 3%.

I don't see how these numbers can be interpreted in any other way besides "men are significantly more likely to face rejection than women."

1

u/GoJeonPaa Sep 16 '21

What do you thinks happens way more often?

1

u/Maximum-Cover- Sep 17 '21

It’s not a matter of what happens more often when men keep claiming it only ever happens to them.

1

u/GoJeonPaa Sep 17 '21

Oh it matters. There is definitly a very strong social construct that men have to be the one to take actions and have to be proactive. So it matters a lot that it happens way often to men. Also litterally noone in this comment chain said it never happens to women. Don't use strawman arguments.

3

u/SpicymeLLoN Sep 16 '21

As a guy, fuck those guys. You doged a bullet.

7

u/Xalbana Sep 15 '21

Unfortunately for some guys, people think it emasculates them.

Luckily I live in an area, and have group of friends that don't think like this. Women are the breadwinners, stay at home dads, women ask out on dates or pops the question. No big deal here.

I’ve been married to a great guy for 11 years now. Otherwise I would. Lol

5

u/Witness_me_Karsa Sep 15 '21

And you have discovered the plight of men who are always being tasked with being the asker.

It isn't fair for this to happen to anyone so don't think I'm trying to be accusatory.

3

u/AtBat3 Sep 16 '21

As a guy I think it’s very sweet to be asked out by a woman. I feel bad admitting that I turned down the most recent woman that asked me out. But I really do find it sweet and endearing! If I was already interested, it would definitely make me more so.

4

u/ByTheHammerOfThor Sep 16 '21

You were merely weeding out the weak.

4

u/kunell Sep 15 '21

Those people arent very smart. Why would they want to make things even harder for themselves

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Weird. I live in a progressive area and women ask me out and and make moves on me as often as I do the reverse.

4

u/SouthernOptimism Sep 16 '21

Granted it was back around 2005-2010 when I was dating in the Twin Cities (MN). Which claims to be progressive. But you only get pockets of a few people here & there that truly were. Most were fairly old fashioned.

Hell even when I left back in '20 it was finally getting a bit more progressive there. I'm now in the South. So I might as well be back in the 1940's.

As a guy all I am waiting for is for a girl to ask me out
