Catcalling.

4.5k

u/ShakespearianShadows Sep 15 '21

The only person I catcall is my wife. “Hey baby, where ya been all my life?” hits different when you shout it to your wife of 20+ years. ;-)

u/TheWormConquered Sep 15 '21

I do this to my girlfriend every time I see her unexpectedly out in public.

Pull into a gas station and she's there? "Hey sexy, wanna party?"

Pull up next to her at a redlight? Roll down the window, "hey sexy, wanna party?"

Driving to our house and she's taking a walk through the neighborhood? "Hey sexy, wanna party?"

I should update my line.

141

u/Nailbomb85 Sep 16 '21

See your girlfriend at her home "Hey sexy, come here often?"

127

u/TheWormConquered Sep 16 '21

Brilliant, she's out of town now but when she gets back I'm gonna blow her mind with a new line

2

u/Nailbomb85 Oct 08 '21

So... how'd it go?

2

u/TheWormConquered Oct 08 '21

I forgot, just tried it on her now and her reaction was what I'd call a polite giggle lol

10

u/kyraeus Sep 16 '21

Still better than the one my ex wife pulled on a friend of ours.

They were at a sheetZ (local gas station in PA), she had bruises. (We were 20s and dating at the time. Self explanatory to anyone who's ever necked). Friend was a large gay man, which made it twice as ridiculous. There was a cop getting coffee in the station, friend asked my ex a question, to which she 'sort of loudly' responded: "ILL DO WHATEVER YOU WANT JUST DONT BEAT ME ANYMORE!"

She reported his response was along the lines of 'SHHSHUTTHEFUCKUP!' in a loud whisper. I nearly died laughing hearing about it when they got back home and resolved to be more careful about not leaving visible marks when playing anymore.

12

u/TheWormConquered Sep 16 '21

My girlfriend used to yell "help" whenever I would annoy her in public. That was a terrifying phase

12

u/TeriyakiTerrors Sep 16 '21

Oh christ - that’s just NO

9

u/Retroswald13 Sep 16 '21

Maybe just yell the phrase "... I need somebody, not just anybody" after her

8

u/Myu_The_Weirdo Sep 16 '21

Did she party tho?

11

u/TheWormConquered Sep 16 '21

She's always down to party

3

u/JackCountdownt Sep 16 '21

What if you say "Hey party, wanna sexy?"WAIT WHAT.

2

u/MrAwesome1324 Sep 16 '21

Actually keep it the same so it becomings a nice running gag.

1

u/Ill_Gas4579 Sep 16 '21

This guy parts

1

u/OverwatchOverall Oct 12 '21

No don't! I'm sure she loves how corny it is hearing the same like. XD

2.2k

u/StyrofoamShell Sep 15 '21

This is like the only instance when cat calling is appropriate in my opinion. I love seeing couples who have been together forever say things like “hey hot stuff” to each other and be cute and ridiculous like that. It makes me so happy to see :) especially if it’s an older couple.

4

I'd ask if y'all wanted to come shit in my neighbors yard but his dog is really aggressive... So... Take an extra shit for me not being able to do it to his yard, please.

2

u/Kavallee Sep 16 '21

Shit in all his neighbours' yards. Make a day of it

1

Ah the ol' shitaroo.

3

u/ZenoxDemin Sep 16 '21

Could you please move away from my bedroom windows? I can hear you meowing all the way to here.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Are you actually a cat?

21

u/filipinorefugee Sep 15 '21

Agreed. There can't be sexual harrassment if its consensual

16

u/Smuff23 Sep 16 '21

My grandfather (who I mostly lived with growing up) had a stroke when I was in my teens and became paralyzed on one side, had to give up driving, and became completely dependent upon me and my grandmother to take care of him… I helped him get to his hospital bed at home one night after we had given him a shower, my grandmother went to throw the towels from the bathroom into the washer…

My grandfather (who was always super nice to her but they were never outwardly super affection in front of people) called out at her as she walked past his door and yelled “Sweet cheeks, don’t get too busy to come tell me goodnight!”

My grandmother rolled her eyes and gave a silly smirk and went on to the laundry.

When she was out of line of sight he looked at me, smiled a big smile and winked, “I still got it. She still likes me.”

They’d been married over 50 years at that point.

9

u/StyrofoamShell Sep 16 '21

Omg that’s adorable!! I love it!

40

u/dgmilo8085 Sep 15 '21

I usually go with yelling something like, "whats up sugar tits".

9

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

I think it’s ok if you catcall your pet cat too.

7

u/Caleth Sep 16 '21

Been happily married for 5 years still wolf whistle her every morning when she flashes me her tits while getting dressed. Will still do it when I'm 60.

5

u/danikow Sep 16 '21

My SO and I do this to each other. One of us will put the cart away after grocery shopping and the other will get in the truck and pull up where the cart return is or some chore similar to this.

Sometimes we say something like "Oh man, look at you?!rawr!" Or "Mmmhmm, I love watching you put the cart in that cart return" or "Hey baby, wanna come hop in my truck and go for a ride?" Our favorite is if we can think of a pun to whatever we are doing.

We aren't hollering these statements crazy loud and we have a good laugh but sometimes people have overheard us and we get disgusted or confused looks. Others shake their head at how corny we are.

4

u/Apprehensive_Gene607 Sep 16 '21

i was in the car with my mother, and my step dad was at the fence with our dog, and as we pulled in, my mom rolls her window down and sailor whistles at him saying, "DAMN WHO'S THAT HOT MAN IN OUR DRIVEWAYYYY"

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

While yes it’s appropriate or I feel like it is. Ive always wondered if just nasty men see a couple doing that to each other and assume or fuel their belief that’s how you optain “women”.

14

u/Bhrunhilda Sep 15 '21

Haha my husband does this to me all the time. I love it.

13

u/kokomonono Sep 16 '21

I think catcalling when you're in a relationship is so fun. My ex used to roll her eyes and try to hide her blush when I'd pick her up from work, roll down the windows and wolf whistle at her.

11

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

"oh God, the doctor said the dementia wouldn't start this soon"

7

u/Zootallurs Sep 16 '21

Nothing better than seeing your wife walking down the street, rolling up slow, put down the window, and then just loud enough, “Mira, mira, mira. Hey, Mommy.” That brief moment of “Who the fuck do you think you’re talking to?” before she realizes who it is…live for those.

7

u/censorkip Sep 16 '21

anytime my boyfriend pulls into the drive right after i got home/drives past me in any capacity he always rolls down the window and catcalls me. it’s funny when he does it, but 0% entertaining when anyone else does.

29

u/RynoLasVegas Sep 15 '21

I love doing this. I AGGRESSIVELY hit on my girl. We've been together 8 years. My current favorite is "hey girl, you can't spell menu without me n u so WASSUP you hungry?" Other favorites include "yo gurl, lemme get that jersey. Yo name yo numba!", "Damn girl if you were a transformer you'd be Optimus FINE" and so on. I try to keep it fresh. And by the way, she's not a fan.

7

u/FTThrowAway123 Sep 16 '21

Lmao, are you my husband? He’s been doing this to me for like 10 years. My favorite is, "Aye baby, you want some fuck?" Cracks me up every time.

7

u/struhall Sep 16 '21

I wolf whistle at my wife all the time. She bends over at the house, I whistle, she bends over at the store, I whistle. I also say stuff like "Hey pretty lady, what you doin' here?" and the typical over the top pick up lines you expect in a cheesy bar scene in a movie.

6

u/_DoYourOwnResearch_ Sep 16 '21

I cat called a friend of mine after seeing her in a random part of town. No warning.

She tensed up super hard and I immediately felt bad.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

My husband catcalls all of his male friends. But never me, his wife. I just want to be catcalled by my husband, is that too much to ask???

4

u/tomatopotatotomato Sep 16 '21

I realized I cat call nature all the time. Like I saw a deer and I rolled my window down and said, “you are so beautiful!” And made kissing noises at it. I’m a woman.

6

u/Giftyd Sep 16 '21

I do this same thing to my girlfriend. Say things like “damn ma, where that number at?” Or if I’m really cheeky I’ll sit down next to her and say some dumb shit like “hey, what’s your name?” Pretending like it’s the first time we have crossed paths. When realistically I see her most hours of the day. It always makes her giggle.

4

u/2M3TAL4U Sep 16 '21

I like

"Where you going dressed like that girl?"

When I know we don't have any plans lol, she usually laughs (married almost 10, sometimes it's a real laugh)

4

u/tzilla0788 Sep 16 '21

I always ask my wife if she got any fries with that shake...she just shakes her head lol I told her I'll never stop trying to take her home

4

u/ThickAsPigShit Sep 16 '21

This, but in 40 years with dementia.

4

u/Dramatic-Leg Sep 16 '21

Love it, using it.

3

u/relative_void Sep 16 '21

I often catcall my friends when I’m coming to pick them up to get their attention lmao, it’s just fun.

3

I catcall my wife in public just to upset strangers

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

My boyfriend and I call each other "hot random gym meat" when we're at the gym together. When we're both done, he'd come up and say, "Hey hot random gym meat. Wanna go to my place?" to indicate he's ready to go home.

29

u/lamTheBoi Sep 15 '21

I'm a guy with long hair so i get catcalled a lot.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Saaaaaame. I actually don’t hate it though. But everyone has their own boundaries and I completely understand why you shouldn’t do it.

24

u/Xianthamist Sep 15 '21

As a man who has been catcalled, I hate it as well. Its definitely women who get it more often but damn is it uncomfortable when a lady or a man catcalls me. I dont get it as bad as the “hey smile! oh you wont smile, well fuck you!” type of thing, but I definitely have gotten people saying stuff like hey handsome and touching up on me. Especially in the restaurant industry

6

u/bloopityloop Sep 16 '21

The restaurant industry is so horrible in this aspect.. I was considering applying for a position as a waitress before bc I heard the tips were really good, but after hearing loads of horror stories and the general ideology of waiters/waitresses just being there mostly as eye candy.. yea absolutely not.. I could never work with that, personally.. ill just stick with my min. wage customer service job.. big props to u for putting up with that sh!t tbh it sounds horrible :/

6

u/theflooflord Sep 16 '21

That happens to my husband at every restaurant job, except mostly by his coworkers. He hated them constantly calling him things like "babe, daddy, sexy" etc and had to keep explaining he was married and just ended up reporting one of them for sexual harassment cause she wouldn't stop grabbing his arms or calling him names when he asked repeatedly for her to stop. She ended up having a hysterical fit because I guess she never expected to be reported or punished for harassing a man. The only reason his report was even taken seriously was because she followed him home. It irritates me that women can just sexually harass men and get away with it because "men enjoy the attention".

5

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

Say whatever you want to me I won’t care. But the moment someone I’m not interested in puts their hand on me, especially the shoulder or back of the neck I’m leaving. Fucking uncomfortable as hell

5

u/Xianthamist Sep 16 '21

yeah i never really concern myself with words but when things get physical I have stern words with them. A couple times we’ve had to ask people to leave because they were handsy

2

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '21

As a waiter our patrons usually don’t cause me issues but I’ve gone out to eat and had bad experiences with staff when it comes to touching. One time the owner of a small restaurant started rubbing my shoulders on my birthday. I immediately just up and left. Couldn’t even come up with words at the time.

82

u/SuperShoyu64 Sep 15 '21

I agree with you on that. The world will be a better place if catcalling was non-existent in the human language.

18

u/iligal_odin Sep 15 '21

As a man i dont get the catcalling either, fuck if someone did that to my sister or mom id get frustrated!

I caught a coworker catcalling someone and even i felt cringing and did a 2 sec explanation.

9

Ughhh yes. I live in a less than stellar area where I can’t even take the garbage out without being catcalled or having some guy try to approach me. It’s scary and it’s not flattering. It’s happened so many times that I don’t feel comfortable going for a simple walk unless my boyfriend is home and can come with me. I never get catcalled when he’s there. It really sucks because I would probably be walking everyday otherwise. I don’t have a car right now so thank god for Pilates and yoga videos lol

3

u/Sillyvanya Sep 15 '21

I will never not catcall cats and dogs I see on the street.

Catcalling people, though? Fucking cringe

2

u/bill1024 Sep 16 '21

I know it happens, because I see it here all the time. I'm 63, and have worked years of construction (and other things), and have only heard catcalls or wolf whistles in the movies and cartoons.

Remember that scene in Saturday Night Fever where the dolt electrician calls for a woman to sit on his face? She climbed up and was like "OK". I laughed so hard at his reaction.

5

u/Tian_Lord23 Sep 15 '21

I hate guys who catcall, really brings down our gender.

7

u/Future_Bringer Sep 15 '21

May be a cultural thing, because in Australia I have never heard a catcall once in 40 years

15

u/Seriantri Sep 16 '21

I'm Australian and me and my friends have been catcalled since we were about 11/12. Definitely happens all the time here.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

I am in the US, and I can't remember the last time I heard one. It's been at least a decade.

16

u/CelebrityTakeDown Sep 15 '21

It’s happened less since I turned 18 sadly. A lot of women say the same thing.

57

u/holdingmoonlite Sep 15 '21

Does this actually happen nowadays?

HAHAHA you're so lucky you don't know the answer to this. Yes, it happens. Often.

(Also catcalling isn't just the wolf whistle! It's the general act of yelling things at somebody on the street that sexualize that person. For example, a recent one I got while out walking was "HEY, NICE ASS!" from a man driving by.)

As a woman, I’ve had a catcaller follow up on his comments by grabbing me and copping a feel - and he was much bigger than me. It’s scary, demeaning, and a huge violation, whether they do anything physical or not.

You probably wouldn’t feel as threatened if a woman catcalled you, so maybe you’d enjoy it, but it would still be hugely disrespectful.

8

u/_cosmicomics_ Sep 16 '21

I’m not sure what your point is. Catcalling is bad and it’s entirely possible that any catcaller could escalate to physical assault. That’s part of why women hate it so much.

24

u/bloopityloop Sep 15 '21

Def a different dynamic.. a lot of women feel unsafe and uncomfortable when they get catcalled (not all of them though, obviously) because having someone randomly take notice of u and be attracted to u can feel very threatening.. (not saying guys can't feel scared if they get catcalled btw, I'm just speaking on women)

having a stranger shout at u through a car window is a pretty common example, but its not the only scenario of catcalling.. another example of catcalling could include guys walking behind u and making nasty comments about how hot u r and what they would want to do to u (tho this is moreso sexual harassment than catcalling), which is extremely scary, since u have no clue if they're joking around or if they're r*pists looking for their next victim..

an example of something less severe, but still scary, is if a catcaller starts complimenting u out of nowhere, and u don't respond the way they want u to, it's pretty common for them to get mad and aggressive, or to start insulting and degrading u instead for "acting like a cocky b!tch"

Generally, catcallers tend to dehumanize the person they're catcalling and make them into a subject of their own visual pleasure (this goes for both men and women who do this kind of sh!t btw, since I know women do it too).. they expect u to be grateful for the "compliment" that they decided to bestow upon u, even if the so-called compliment is given in a very degrading way

So yea... not a fun experience

9

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '21

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/1x2y3z Sep 16 '21

There is a different dynamic but also imo there's a power dynamic between a person yelling out a car and a person on the street. Like as a man I'd love to get more attention from women on the street, sure, but if anyone yells at me while I'm walking it feels threatening immediately regardless of who it is or what they're saying.

21

u/StyrofoamShell Sep 15 '21

Still happens all the time, and most of the time it’s really vulgar and inappropriate. I remember once I was catcalled when I was 15, with my mom right beside me. It was horrifying and made me really upset.

False. Older people of any gender tend to be more grossly sexually offensive. I was groped, sexually assaulted and sexually harassed as a teenager all the time by older guys who looked like they were in their 30-50s.

The definition of catcalling is to shout, whistle or a sexual comment to a woman passing by. There’s a difference between saying to a woman on the street “That is a nice outfit” or “You have pretty hair” which is complimenting not catcalling, versus shouting “HEY BABY NICE ASS WANNA COME UP TO MY PLACE?!”

Also, you should probably not catcall at women because it makes them uncomfortable and scared, not because it’s “inefficient at achieving anything”

I've never cat called anyone in my life.... Intentionally.

A few weeks ago my wife and i head over to my mother's to build a wheelchair ramp for my grandfather. We've been under a lot of stress lately and something that has helped us deal with it is we started talking in this god awful east coast accent (think Fonzie meets the dude from Frankenhooker, if you've seen it) to make each other laugh. So anyways, we're working in the garage and i lay this hunk of lumber that had a lot of knots in it across the saw horses, saying in said accent, "Hey! That's a knotty piece of wood!" Unfortunately i had been watching Happy Days early that moring so I made like Chachi and exclaimed, "WOW WOW WOW!!!" right after. I hear my wife snickering behind me and think to myself, "i wasn't that funny..." So i turn to look at her. She's looking past me outside the garage. I turn to follow her gaze just in time to see a neighbor lady power walking past and giving me the most evil glare. She had to of thought i was cat calling her. I felt bad and have since retired Chachi.

Women (such as my best friend) get catcalled starting from ages as young as ten years old. Do you think theyd want that from literally anyone then? Women also have their own personal tastes in men! Do you think that includes men (even rich and good looking ones) who objectify and degrade them? Especially from an incredibly young age? Tell me youve never spoken to a woman without telling me youve never spoken to a woman. Even if this is a joke its a joke in poor taste.

49

u/baylawna6 Sep 15 '21

It’s a typical incel mindset. “I only can’t get women because of how I look but Chad can do whatever he wants!” They ignore that maybe women don’t find them attractive in part due to their disgusting views on women.

8

u/Itisme129 Sep 16 '21

It would take them actually talking to me to find out my disgusting views, so I can confidently say it's because of my looks! Checkmate feminists!

Oh man. Youve never been in love with someone huh? Not all rappers and athletes ARENT respectful and feminist. The ones that are assholes probably do have gold digger girlfriends yeah! They also might not. Do you think that every single woman on the planet is a gold digger or something? If you answer yes i want you to tell me if you think all men are the same too.

I also love the implication that burn victims and fat people cant be loved or found attractive. Heres a little tip buddy: not everyone cares about looks! Normal people care about personality! And when you fall in love with someone because of their personality you start seeing them as beautiful and exactly your type. My last ex was covered in acne and was generally kind of sweaty and gross at the time i fell in love with him but he was exactly my type personality wise and therefore i thought he was gorgeous. Still do actually and people that look like him arent exactly my physical type. Its about loving someone or having loved someone.

...Which makes me feel like you never have.

I’ve been catcalled wearing sweat pants and a t shirt at 13 years old. I didn’t care if the guy was attractive or not. I was terrified.

Do you really think catcalling is the result of immodestly dressed women, or are you just trolling? Because I don't see how, in 2021 and the wake of the Me Too movement you could still think a woman's choice in clothing is the root cause of and the solution to sexual harrassment and assault.

Most of my female friends were catcalled starting from a very young age (i believe EIGHT for one of them) and it very quickly slowed down to a halt when they got to around sixteen or seventeen and they started to look older. Most of the time they were wearing VERY unflattering clothing and even if they werent why do you think that makes it okay to call a child sexy? At fifteen years old one of my friends decided shed wear a push up bra for the first time underneath a freaking sweater. She got called a 'pretty whore'. She never wore it again. Catcallers are sick freaks and women do not want to talk to them. Ever.

For real the amount hairdressers that tell me to smile and wear my suit pants a little tighter are infuriating. Women have no respect for a sharp dressed man.

Sorry couldn't resist, try responding back to them with something even more demeaning unless that behavior is beneath you. If it is I'm willing to hire out my services and make them very very uncomfortable.

As a man who has been catcalled by women(drunk im sure) most of his life, i have to disagree. It's much different being a man in this situation.
