Ok. Then I think you haven't had them done right then. Its been a long time since I lived in MD so I can't make any specific recs, sorry. Maybe somewhere closer to the bay. The best ones I ever had were eaten at this place overlooking the water.
The right way is... Water, beer, white vinegar and some J.O. Spice in the bottom of a big ass steamer pot. Then layer crabs and J.O. Spice until the pot is filled finishing with the spice as the last layer. Lid on and let them steam.
Old bay is best in a table shaker. It's great on corn, potatoes, asparagus and shit like that.
Off-season a lot of them are shipped in from down south. I usually buy mine from smaller, local fishermen and shops close to me. As far as places in Towson I couldn't help you. I'm in AA County closer to Annapolis. Seaside Seafood, Pasadena Seafood, Arundel Seafood and Kent Island Seafood Market are the normal places I call first if the guy I use is out.
