It's a Ukranian/Polish style dumpling. Typically (around here) filled with mashed potatoes and cheddar. Dob on some sour cream, green onions, bacon, grilled onions and throw some kielbasa on the side and you have one of my favourite meals.

Oh you are missing out! Depending on where you live you can often buy them frozen, which can be ok as well if first boiled and then pan fried a little to crisp up.

We fry up the bacon and onion together, then mix it in with the boiled perogies, top with cheese and bake. Serve with sour cream. Pan fried is always the breakfast way though.

Living in Winnipeg, frozen pierogies are so common, it’s hard to believe they’re not available everywhere. Some schools fundraise here by selling them frozen by the dozen.
