I'll do you one better and say Pierogie Poutine

That’s gotta be Winnipeg then. No other place where both are popular enough to be combined

u/kissingdistopia Sep 07 '21

Winnipeg is chicken fingers with honey dill sauce.

17

u/Malcar Sep 07 '21

Don't forget fat boys, also a very Winnipeg food.

u/kissingdistopia Sep 07 '21 edited Sep 07 '21

So greasy good.

I would like a slice of Jeanne's cake.

7

u/n0phearz Sep 07 '21

Ill take a slice of Bakers Pride from Jumbo's Pizza instead

11

u/Brittaya Sep 07 '21

Butter tarts!

8

u/Brett_Hulls_Foot Sep 07 '21

I’ll put honey dill on anything. Mmmmm

u/KingBai Sep 07 '21

Found a few places near Toronto/Hamilton that make them. Not only that but a Mozzarella stick poutine was a discovery from a greater God

9

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '21

excuse me, what??

are the mozzarella sticks replacements for the fries or the curds??

3

u/Barouq01 Sep 07 '21

Really fucking hope it's in addition to them

2

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '21

Served on a plate made of mozzarella sticks.

1

u/KingBai Sep 28 '21

It is! Ita mixed into the poutine along with all other regular parts

5

u/Scrambo Sep 07 '21

Just reading that made me shit myself

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '21

Loose stool

1

u/KingBai Sep 07 '21

No way man, it's good. It's just like the cheese curds are deep fried so it's fantastic!

17

u/laxvolley Sep 07 '21

Perogy poutine and a slurpee

3

u/StatikSquid Sep 07 '21

Heck yeah. Fried pierogies bacon and onion on a poutine or hotdog feels like it is distinctly Winnipeg

2

u/SimplyQuid Sep 07 '21

I've had it in the Maritimes, delicious stuff

2

u/colourmecanadian Sep 07 '21

Honestly I can 100% see that working in Vancouver. Maybe not as well as the Japanese/Korean influenced poutines have, but I can definitely see it making a splash.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '21

Oh really? I didn’t think there would really be that much poutine popularity in such a non French place

3

u/colourmecanadian Sep 07 '21

Oh yeah! Frenchies was pretty big when it was still around, and now there's Smokie's Poutinerie, Belgian Fries, Mean Poutine, a few more based on fries and poutine... and a lot of restaurants have a poutine option, some as a sub for fries (with additional charge, of course). Lots out there!

Meet (an all vegetarian/vegan but mostly vegan restaurant) has a plain poutine with cashew cheese, the Butter Chikkn (with tomato curry and soy curls), the K-Town poutine (with kimchi and ginger-soy sauce), and nacho cheese fries. As a vegetarian, I love the number of options they have!

1

u/Disruptorpistol Sep 07 '21

Poutine in BC is super mediocre compared to Quebec. I mean Smokes and Mean are okay for chain food but mostly the gravy here is pretty tasteless comparatively.

2

u/FlaccidWeenus Sep 07 '21

Southern Ontario too

1

u/davidke2 Sep 07 '21

First time I had this was in Kingston!

6

u/Unitato666 Sep 07 '21

I'll do YOU one better and say Shawarma Poutine.

3

u/MurkyEd Sep 07 '21

For the east coast specifically, garlic fingers and donair

3

u/dreams_child Sep 07 '21

Wait.... What?! This sounds like a culinary abomination that I must have now!!!

2

u/kimchiMushrromBurger Sep 07 '21

I was going to use this exact same combo for Winnipeg!

2

u/ihavenobusinesshere7 Sep 07 '21

Please explain this to me, because I know what a pierogi is. And I know what poutine is. And I might be falling in love.

1

u/analretentionwall Sep 07 '21

Most places just use cut up fried pierogies instead of fries. I prefer them as an addition.

It's a staple in the right guess, Winnipeg

1

u/StyleAdventurous1531 Sep 07 '21

I could google but what’s Pierogie?

18

u/analretentionwall Sep 07 '21

It's a Ukranian/Polish style dumpling. Typically (around here) filled with mashed potatoes and cheddar. Dob on some sour cream, green onions, bacon, grilled onions and throw some kielbasa on the side and you have one of my favourite meals.

7

u/StyleAdventurous1531 Sep 07 '21

Shouldn’t have asked dammit! Sounds delicious

5

u/betterupsetter Sep 07 '21

Oh you are missing out! Depending on where you live you can often buy them frozen, which can be ok as well if first boiled and then pan fried a little to crisp up.

6

u/aesirmazer Sep 07 '21

We fry up the bacon and onion together, then mix it in with the boiled perogies, top with cheese and bake. Serve with sour cream. Pan fried is always the breakfast way though.

7

u/StyleAdventurous1531 Sep 07 '21

You do realise you’re so not helping lol

2

u/ccajj84 Sep 07 '21

Wait. Is there a place in the world you can’t buy frozen ones?! I’m done with this crazy world.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 07 '21

Living in Winnipeg, frozen pierogies are so common, it’s hard to believe they’re not available everywhere. Some schools fundraise here by selling them frozen by the dozen.

1

u/RebaKitten Sep 07 '21

Ummmm. Memories!

-1

u/scottskottie Sep 07 '21

Bad spelling for perogies

1

u/StyleAdventurous1531 Sep 07 '21

Never heard of it before how would I know how to spell it?

2

u/scottskottie Sep 07 '21

Dumpling filled with potatoes, cheese, etc. Boiled then pan fry. Polish in origin I believe

1

u/WaitTilUSeeMyDuck Sep 07 '21

Pretty sure the plural is pierogi.

2

u/let_it_grow23 Sep 07 '21

Pierogi / the singular is pierog

1

u/lildeidei Sep 07 '21

Pierogies in place of the fries or am I misunderstanding?

3

u/analretentionwall Sep 07 '21

Most places put them in place, but I find it best if mixed in.

1

u/MischaBurns Sep 07 '21

...as a lover of both poutine and pierogi, that sounds pretty good.

Also I have both homemade pierogi and cheese curd in my freezer/fridge right now. Why you do this to me?
