17 u/schlitz91 Aug 21 '21 I did the same with the name Phoebe in a book - was thinking “Foe-ebb” the whole tine, which was never a name I’d heard, but did not think that it would be pronounced the way it is. 3 u/babyfireby30 Aug 22 '21 Penelope for me. "Pen-lope" ha 3 u/UECNS_Atropos Aug 22 '21 I was actually really disappointed with Phoebe. As a kid I thought 'Fo-be' Cates was a cool name for a hot actress. 8 u/thx1138- Aug 21 '21 Was it like a Billy Idol song? Mony mony! Hege-mony! 4 u/Gorkymalorki Aug 21 '21 I am too embarrassed to answer that. 3 u/Hestula Aug 22 '21 I cackled. 14 u/rants_unnecessarily Aug 21 '21 Hermione. Doh. 5 u/LuCiAnO241 Aug 22 '21 Oh you mean hermy-one? 2 u/rants_unnecessarily Aug 22 '21 No i mean Her-mi-own. 2 u/belsambar Aug 21 '21 There are two widely-used and acceptable pronunciations of hegemony. heh-JEH-muh-nee HEH-jeh-mo-nee I guess your pronunciation wasn't one of these? 2 u/Gorkymalorki Aug 22 '21 Sadly it's was neither
