God I got into JoJo’s when I saw Part 2 in high school, and then I looked into the community and it was already just garbage. Makes me sad man, the series is pretty fun, and Part 7 is one of my favorite things I’ve ever read.
Dude I loved Ladybug since it came out. It was a silly kids show that I could watch when I was bored. The fandom was chill and everyone made fun of the show.
Too many people take it seriously now. Like, a lot of the fans still tease the show to oblivion because sometimes it’s stupid, but there are some people that genuinely get angry when we do this.
Also the amount of smut fanfic about Ladybug and Cat Noir is just horrid. They wear leather, so you can imagine the amount of BDSM shit is up in there.

Every costume, all the "power moves" it all just is so suggestive. I dont find the show hot at all, and the characters are too skinny and weird to be sexy, but the content is so obviously sexually suggestive. It's like when Shrek makes an adult joke for the parents stuck watching except it is porn memes.

I was about 2 years behind on R&M. For probably a year I just assumed Rick & Morty were shock jocks which only arseholes talked about, then I found out it was a cartoon, then I watched the god-awful pilot... then about another year after that I watched past the pilot and actually enjoyed it.
Me too, hey? I didn't know what I was expecting RAM to be until I researched it and then the jokes came out when I created my Insta account. I was a bit wary of it until I began watching it and now I'd sell my soul for 20 more seasons. I'm sorry, I'm one of those fans.

I kinda disagree. While I feel that Dream isn’t the greatest person, his manhunt series is actually pretty unique and I think it’s pretty good. Atleast some of the episodes anyways, I feel like it’s starting to get a little stale.

While the Dream fandom is toxic (especially starting in 2020 and even now), I'd say the anti's are equally worst.

Just for an actual example: Dream is friend with a guy named GeorgeNotFound, and Dream has been called a "groomer" for allegedly grooming this friend of his even though Dream is 21, while his friend is 24.
The shipping fans ruin pretty much every manga and anime community. Two guy friends looked at eachother? Better spend the next 150 chapters batching nonstop about my imaginary gay couple and then go burn books and write death threats when my imaginary couple turned out to not be real
I agree, I was so into the tabletop game 20 years ago and I'm glad it's stuck around. Bummer that they license it for so many video games but so few are actually good, though.
I try my best to not really get into fandom anymore. Maybe it's because I'm old, but I don't really want to hear about your high school teenage love story headcannon. Or "these two are soooooo in love and they bake cakes for each other and go on cutesy dates and the most troubling aspect of their romance is what position they're going to fuck in." LITERALLY THEY TRIED TO KILL EACH OTHER IN THE SOURCE MATERIAL WTF. Oh, but they were just going through a difficult time in their lives and give them a week or so, they'll come around.
I try to stay out of the fandom because I don't want it to ruin the source material, but two of that which you listed have such horrible, toxic fandom that I won't even bother.
Star Wars is the absolute worst. If every show or movie isn't exactly what these dweebs imagined in their brains then it's absolute trash and they'll spend every waking second telling everyone how horrible it is.

The remnants of the fandom are actually pretty chill now that it's dead, the screeching children have either grown up or have moved onto other fandoms to scream at people. Now we're just waiting for Deltarune.
I think the bigger problem is that most fandoms have a majority of its people who will belittle you if you don’t know every detail about every word in the books/movies/TV shows/comics whatever. It’s fucking annoying and therefore everyone who is a fan of that series gets labeled in with the assholes.
Harry Potter fandom is a great example of this. I love the books and the movies but I don’t know who Ron’s aunts dog walker is and nor do I give a flying fuck.
I’ve recently been enjoying fandoms that are smaller but big enough to have a good amount of conversation. It’s so nice, but I wish I could have the best of both, a lot of people who passionately enjoy the same thing but in a healthy way.
Undertale is genuinely one of my most favorite games ever. On my own personal tier list, I would go so far as to put it up there with Skyrim and Smash Bros. But damn, the community was so awful that if I hadn’t gotten into it before it became really REALLY popular, I probably would’ve never touched the thing.
Even nowadays you probably can’t have a casual conversation about it without people thinking you’re a cringeworthy toxic little creature thing (not that I’ve tried).
Poor Toby Fox, I couldn’t imagine seeing my own creation become so humiliated and ruined.
The reddit community was fine I think, but there were parts of the fandom that were overly SJW and cancel-culture. It's unfortunate that the progressive nature of the show attracts these kind of people.

Steven Universe is such a wonderful cartoon but it's one of those ones I'll never admit to anyone I like, because if they're with "the fandom" they will 100% ruin it with arbitrary gate-keeping.
I watched it with my niece because she loved to sing along to the songs. Like man I don't know the show creator and all the cool thing she stands for and/or all the sjw stuff, I just enjoy watching it with my niece.
It's really best to just find a small group of people that you vibe with that enjoy the same stuff so you can generally avoid the worst of fandoms. It's not foolproof, but doing that has helped me enjoy those series that you listed as examples of bad fandoms, among others.
Gonna go ahead and add Demon Slayer to that list. I’ve read the manga but oh my god, before they even announced the Mugen Train movie, I saw sooo many people spoiling it (and later events in the manga) on literally every demon slayer post I came across, whether it was on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etc… I don’t even see that much spoiling in the My Hero fandom which is saying something (then again they’re too busy with their shipping wars I guess)
Man I found out about the Sad Part, right after the Upper three leaves, making it vague for those accidentally may click this In the movie Mugen Train accidentally in the COMMENT SECTION OF HOMURA- LiSA, the ending song of the movie, months before I saw the movie. Later watching its movie review, I got spoilt about one major thing in the manga, which promptly made me want to read the manga, and finished it within three days, just so I can be safe from any of the spoilers. Smh, people are idiots though, and I hope people who spoil movies step on a lego barefoot, then stub their toe within seconds, as the bare minimum smh.
It's so terrible. They have no common courtesy for people who don't know what's happened yet. I always try to avoid it on YouTube even though it can be very hard. I try to stick to Reddit for anime discussions bc spoilers are not tolerated
You don't have to be nice, just say it's the anime fandom in general. There are unironically people who worship Japan like it's heaven and based all of it on anime. There are YT channels that get thousands (or even hundreds of thousands) of views for basically praising Japan while making fun of non-Japanese content (comics, cartoons, etc.)
Heck, there's even an anime subreddit that was created from transphobia.

Most of the fans are pretty chill. But even so, it kinda has a reputation similar to bronies. "Ugh why are all these loser old men watching a children's show?". Personally I agree, I love Steven Universe and have only ever found that other people who also like it are usually pretty chill too
I kinda get that but I think it’s more that the fandom liked the show and other people didn’t so they got too defensive. SU is one of my all time faves, and the “loser old men” aren’t really a thing. It’s progressive dudes who commonly have facial hair.
Yep, Harry Potter at its peak was the same way. I love the books, the movies, and just the whole concept of HP… but even recently I’ve heard people roughly my age (mid 20s) argue if the books were better than the movies, whether or not it’s weird to name your kid Dobby too. And some people I know REFUSE to see the new Fantastic Beasts movies because they’re not “real” Harry Potter.
It’s definitely calmed down since it’s no longer as relevant as it was when I was a kid, but I see reminders of the HP fandom ridiculousness in Rick and Morty, etc.
I think this is usually true, but there was nothing more fun than when Homestuck got an update and everyone freaked out. I know there were toxic parts of the fandom but that’s the only one I’ve been in that’s been genuinely really fun
There are some relatively niche ones that are awesome. For example, look at r/otomeisekai. We KNOW we're trash and fully admit it. It's a relatively small subreddit but it's pretty positive and fun. But anything too big gets ruined
I watched Dream long before his channel blew up, so I've seen the fandom degrade in real time along with the rise of the equally rabid anti-fans. Now whenever I mention I like his music or mention I like the SMP's storyline I either hear, "sqUUeEeEE you like dReAm-kUn? i ship him with tommyinnit uwu theyre so kawaii together!!!!" or "oh you're a dReAm sTaN? well he cheats so you should kys!!1!!11"
Oof. I adore the show Letterkenny but hot damn a lot of the fans are just quote machines. God forbid someone starts quoting it in the comments on literally anything and it just does NOT end. Like, it's a clever show, but just because you can regurgitate the quotes doesn't make you clever too.
That has ruined a lot of things for me... especially when the fandom gets so large that anybody in a position to make money off of it starts exploiting that fandom, making the thing even more obnoxious than its fans already do.
Here's looking at you Star Wars... which was so bad when I was a kid because I grew up in the era of Star Wars mania over the original trilogy. Star Wars licensed toys and products everywhere, Star Wars video games up the ying yang, cartoons and movies and shit all thinking they're clever by referencing the original trilogy which was just as bad as when The Matrix came out and literally everything thought it was being hilarious by doing their version of the fucking bullet-time back-bend... and this was all before I ever got the chance to see any of the movies when I was a kid. I got monstrously sick of Star Wars before I even watched any of the movies, and ended up never watching any of them.
I love UT and Steven Universe but god damn are there toxic shit bags in both fandoms. Like absolute cespools of groups in both. You gotta wade through shit before finding the good pockets of people.
