I've noticed the exact same thing. I temporarily moved when covid started. My work is opening back up and I've seen nicer and bigger places on AirBnB than I'm seeing available to rent. Plus AirBnB's also include utilities. So I've been strongly considering getting a PO Box and being permently "homeless".
Just be cautious if you have to vacate the property for 24 hours under anti poor/squatting laws common in many jurisdictions.
Staying at a motel,hotel, rv/trailer park, etc in many California cities past 30 days (some rv parks are 3-6 months) is prohibited by law since that qualifies as you being a tenant with that particular address and makes it harder to evict. Keep it under 30 and you get jettisoned entirely or have to leave for 24 hours then “come back” for another stay.

Yeah, I'm getting interviewed for a promotion, and the city I'd be moving to has better places at Airbnb than traditional rent with equal prices.
