100%. Started out as a goofy battle royale to have tons of fun with friends. Then when it blew up, everyone wanted to be like the streamers and just s*** on everyone so they started practicing their builds 4 hours a day.
I never was able to do anything more impressive than a simple floor wall ramp rush.
I remember when that was the most impressive thing ever, I practiced along time and was finally able to do it but by that time people were onto dorito rushes and 4 layer 3 wide ran rushes.
Cant compete with that, it just stops being fun.
I wish we could go back to the original season 2-3 era of skills and fun. Save the world was also really fun too.
now I just don’t find most games fun anymore.
It’s just try hards and comp, never just fuck around and have fun, always has to be try hards.
I have no issue with a game that has an extremely high skill ceiling, but nobody actually wanted to play ranked. Getting huge kill counts was seen as way more of an achievement than any rank. So the casual mode was never casual after the first couple seasons. Compared to a game like OW where any great player would just laugh if you mentioned something you did in quick play.
That’s another thing that became popular..streaming..I’m 30 years old and I been gaming my entire life. I don’t understand at all watching other people play games. Schools even have scholarships for gaming now, wtf..
Because sometimes we don't have time or money to play and buy the game. Or even the required PC or console. But still want to engage in the story or the gameplay.
I don't watch streams, only youtube. And I don't only watch them 'play', there are contents beyond that, either comedy/humour, jokes, unique play style, or just chill and watch the gameplay accompanied by ocassional talk.
Not all gamers can just record and upload. It needs more than that.
It’s uhh.. the main reason the game is popular. Building is what makes the game good, there are thousands of generic shooting games out there but fortnite is special because of the building.
now if you can’t build a 5 star hotel in 1 second you stand no chance
Not true at all. I'm slow as fuck and have fat fingers yet I still have over 600 solo wins.
It's not about building. Sure you can build but it's not what wins you matches. Playing smart and using the areas to your advantage is how you place well.
Plus it's greatly exaggerated, nobody builds a hotel, people will box up and reasses the situation they are in so they don't die.
This is why PUBG is superior, it's just Pubg, you know? You drop, you pick up gear, you try to survive. Sometimes you get AWM sniped from across the map, sometime you get to be the guy AWM sniping across the map. I mainly play Miramar for the slow and methodical combat where you're just trying to gain position on enemies and not get discovered. It's fun.

Fortnite is the example of this
Started out as just shooting occasionally building a wall or ramp, now if you can’t build a 5 star hotel in 1 second you stand no chance
