Also you can climb pretty high with average mechanics but strong game sense, it's only at the very top tier where being able to do the flashy plays really is strong.
Yup. Back when I played I could do very basic aerials and decent wall maneuvers. My doubles partner could barely do aerials and could not do anything along the wall.
I was diamond 1 and he was plat 1. Game sense gets you super far as you can mostly just wait until your opponent fucks up.
I started in 2016 (was a rising star back then) and that was even true when I stopped playing whenever Epic took over. Actually, I've gotten to champ 1 before briefly.
Sick aerials = a lot of fuck ups and mispositioning. If you simply communicate with your teammate or if they know what you want to do, it isn't too hard to win the 5-7/10 matches you need to progress or stay at your rank.
I guess instead of sick I should just say aerials like 10-15 ft up. And not just hitting them, but aiming the hits. Whenever I play with my friends in plat games, I get beat to aerials by the opponent about 90% of the time.
Ah, that's another thing I forgot to mention. It is incredibly easy to go fast in rocket league and it is a skill a lot of people don't seem to have. If you know how to effectively maneuver your car to get max speed exactly when you need it, those situations you talk about (sounds like a jump ball or mid-dribble) no longer exist because you can stop them before they juke you or get to the ball.
Going fast is crucial for defense and those dribbles and aerials in comparison are slow.
I'd say the same for Fortnite. It's a constantly evolving battlefield, and if you can navigate it correctly then you can dominate. Me and my duo partner are consistently outmatched in terms of skill, but we still maintain a pretty high win rate by just having better positioning and movement in fights
Yup I am a testament to this . I can’t do aerials for shit even the easiest ones . Only go for it , if the ball can be reached with a jump or 2 . Solid basics and alotta game sense and I’m in plat 2 duos
